its being a **** just now, when i kick it into test the buttons dont always work. and then it starts going into test itself. i dont know if its the dodgy steering pot, or the switches. i might try booting test up from the mobo, but im not 100% sure where to hit it. i defo dont get any talk of cards ??? so it probably is not turned on, however the no cards get an attendant has gone. tbh its getting stripped and put in the house soon. i just want to play it before it **** up, which it will when i strip it  always does  but i need more power. when it goes inside i will be putting in id2, so i want to boot this a bit before i do. i will give it another go tomorrow, fingers crossed i get in to test and can find it. easy is defo done, normal is getting there :D

Yeah the game starts getting a lot more fun and challenging from usui onwards. One thing I like about initial d is even in the first game with only 4 courses, each new stage really ramps up the difficulty level. You wait until you play akina for the first time, you'll be blown away by how much tougher it gets. And then happo is something else entirely! :awe:

there are test and service buttons on the mobo. Or there are on naomi 1 so I assume they're there on 2 too

i will try the mobo later on today. im thinking of having a wee clean up. got 2 cabs going from the garage to the house and 1 pinball hybrid going into the garage from the house. i have changed the way i sit at the cab, i sussed out i was almost getting into the screen by hunching forward  it seems to suck me in  fastest time so far on easy is 3.09, i still like the easy course though as its a nice fluid drive. im working on the feints and seem to be progressing. i just need some more power to move on to the other courses. anyway i will report back later.

cheers.

i stripped open the dash and discovered a blue wire had come out of the plug housing on the change view switch. sorted that and fired it up, it ran for about 15 mins then went into test mode. i then swapped out the i/o board and fired it up, yeehhaa the beast is alive, the card reader has been switched on and works 100%. i have now completed the first 2 levels and i am now on the hard course. the mrs has fell in love with it, she isnt to good at the game but hey who cares. i will spend a couple of weeks on this then probably move onto id2. i have only picked up iirc about 140,000 points, is there any way to rack up points quicker ??? i cant really do the time trials as im leaving them to the mrs, i will do them at some point but i need to keep the mrs interested in it. the dodgy pot on the steering has been rotated and now the car steers without any probs. i just need to source the speakers for the seating now. its going to be pretty hectic over the next couple of weeks. i have poker and pinball finals coming up so i want have a lot of time to practice. im hoping to complete this in the next 4 weeks or so.

cheers.

Sweet, glad you're enjoying it, the game really sucked me in when I started playing it too. No real tips for racking up more points, you can always race opponents you've already beaten. I just took on each stage one at a time, using the time trial mode to improve on each course until I could clear it. I was about 3/4 of the way to a full tune by the time I cleared LotS.

Akina (Hard) is tough, much tougher than the first two. You really need to refine the hairpin technique that Usui (Normal) teaches you. I don't remember the LotS opponents being too hard to beat once I got to grips with it though, it's only the last two opponents on Happo that I really found challenging.

Haven't started id2 yet as it's been a while since I've fired the cab up, but I know once I start playing it I won't be doing much else for a few weeks!

been hammering this at every opportunity i get. im now through the first 2 levels and only have expert on hard to beat, i also humped the first 2 in expert. time trials on easy are now down to under 3 minutes. due to the added traffic at mine over the weekends, i have now ran out of cards. i only have 3 shots left on my subaru then i need to replace it. so i have been using the skyline. im still playing in the garage, but its starting to get colder so i think the strip down and move into the house is imminent. its really killing my shooting skills though. i havent fired up my egret for yonks

Going back to the two vids at the start, it's comforting to see that even they are bouncing off the sides still. Or at least that's the way it looks to me! My technique is to literally throw the steering from side to side, catching it again either side of the turn. Gets a bit hairy and it's hard work but it's good fun.

In fact, the more I watch stuff like these vids the more I think I should keep at least one side of the machine!

why not keep them and convert 1 to chihiro ??? i didnt like driving games before i came across these cabs. they are just so flexible. if i can beat the expert in hard this weekend then i will be moving onto id2. the mrs doesnt want me to change the game yet, i think shes a bit worried it will be totally different. i have been trying a different technique on the hair pins. a sort of mix between feinting and dropping gears whilst putting the foot down. when it works its great, you can really horse around the bends. im still looking for the seat speakers though.

cheers.

At least some of those need a different steering setup and therefore a different control panel. If anyone has a method to convert the ID3 steering from 370 degree (or whatever it is) to 270 degree without having to source a new panel then I'm all ears!

True, but the model 2 and 3 panels will fit straight on, I've hung onto my stc panel for this reason and may butcher it in the future if I ever get bored of id ;)

I've found OR2 very playable with an ID panel/wheel setup !I know its not everybodies cup of tea but it not terrible !

I've also learned to live with this, It's certainly very playable.

Edit: What i finde much worse though is the outrun 2sp forcefeedback not working correctly when changing view to inside the car (not an issue on OR2)

Excellent - glad to hear it's not a complete non starter from at least some people

I might start a separate thread about modding the ID panel as I have a complete spare panel that I only bought for the wheel. Gives me a bit of lee-way on experimenting. Bit OT for an ID thread though. Well, I guess

That issue is really bad - it's at the point where I ripped out the Chihiro and never to load it again with OR2SP at least..

The bug is also present in Lindbergh OR2SDX version as well.. :palm:

What we really need is some kind of resident sega expert codemonkey who can come up with a fix...

It's a damn shame as the SP version does have alot more going on, .. The force feedback is such an important part of the arcade game experience it's differcult to ignore. It would had been a disaster if the regular OR2 also had the same bug, luckily OR2 works 100%.

anybody got the spec for the outrun steering pot ??? or even a picture ??? andy will know more, but im guessing its still a 360 pot. the control unit will calibrate it every time its fired up ???

so questions.
if the steering is restricted on the id cab will the control unit find an error, or recalibrate on the available resistance ???

will reducing the travel on the id cab steering wheel, result in a burn out of either the motor or control unit ??? or possibly a circuit breaker will kick in.

i would really only want this cab, but it would be nice to play other games etc. i tried or2 on the sharkfactors, and it was nice. i also played on petes or2 at replay last year. but both had replacement control panels.
