Re: Varnish connoisseurs
Kern is the valve expert but I've heard good things about Primaluna. They have autobias as well making them more user friendly.
The main thing to be aware of if you're using tubes is that they generally have low power output so you need speakers with high sensitivity, 90dB or higher generally speaking.

That appears to be solid state.Jan wrote: November 16th, 2019, 12:27 pm Tube amp aside, what is General opinion on a all in one amp like the McIntosh MA5300AC ?

Re: Varnish connoisseurs
I'd start with the speakers to be honest. If you find something you like the sound of and that works well in your room and is suitable for valves then look at an integrated valve amp.
Worth noting McIntosh to a couple of hybrid integrated amps. Valve pre-amp stage with solid state power, so they'll drive any speakers but add a bit of that valve magic as well.

Re: Varnish connoisseurs
Sonus Faber make lovely speakers. My local dealer stocks them. Quite smooth sounding. Could be what you're after with McIntosh, a really rich sound I’d imagine. They're beautifully finished too. Love the "grilles".

Re: Varnish connoisseurs
Your home cinema amp is enough. Go big on the speakers ignore anything else. Go even bigger than Venere.
Don't go valves and big power. It's expensive and has a soft bass despite 1kw of consumption.
Phono pre: Lehmann Audio Black Cube.

Re: Varnish connoisseurs
Just listened to a pair of Kii 3’s with matching subs in a treated room, Wow very impressive, the sound stage was mind blowing.
Finally picked up the Trinnov ST2, should keep me busy this weekend.

Tried some of those but went with Isoacoustics Gaia which do pretty much the same job at a fraction of the price and aren't such an eyesore. If you're finding your bass is a bit loose/one note or is transmitting through the floor they will make a world of difference.kernow wrote: November 29th, 2019, 11:57 am Want

Re: Varnish connoisseurs
After playing with the Trinnov for a couple of hours, its nice to see my suspicions were right about the 40-50Hz spike.
looks like I need bass traps too, I dont want to leave this DSP in line, just for testing.
So... does it sound better after room correction?, it certainly sounds different but thats hifi
