With Auralic's new range out you can get a good deal on the Vega if you're willing to spend more. I prefer the Chord DAC sound though.

Re: Varnish connoisseurs
Really interesting device this but I wouldn’t get enough use out of it to justify the cost, unlike Mr Apprentice here.

TBH my Mojo isn't getting used. It's easier to just grab the Walkman. Swapping the Walkman for a Poly would only really make sense if I wanted to drive my LCD-3 out and about which obvs I don't. Might sell it.

Indeed. Floor to ceiling with stuff, as is the Tokyo way but it does make you realise how lucky we are to have dealers with the space for demo rooms.
This place is surely the best the UK has to offer: http://www.360-virtual-tours.co.uk/360-tours/HIFI-1/

New car has Mark Levinson 14 speaker sound system sounds nice & clear.
Still rocking my B&W 602's at home, a fav of the company:

Best of I got given them for free some years back.

Re: Varnish connoisseurs

I'd quite like to try a McIntosh amp someday, I'm told I'd like it. The green glow is part of the appeal of a full McIntosh system I guess but that's beyond ridiculous. It's full shelf width as well. A $1500 waste of space.

Am I missing something or is that just a project box with illuminated branding?

It's like a Cave box for the ultra rich.crunchywasp wrote: August 17th, 2018, 8:20 pm Am I missing something or is that just a project box with illuminated branding?![]()
i'm not much a connoisseur but I got to demo a crap ton of mcintosh stuff at a hi-fi dealer. It sounded good. Just not "more than the sum of all of my worldly possessions" good.SuperPang wrote: August 17th, 2018, 5:24 pm![]()

Re: Varnish connoisseurs
Have a couple of hifi nerd friends over later for a bit of beard stroking, I have a pair of ATC SCM 50 ASL’s and a pair of SCM 25 pro’s balanced on top that need a listening session.
Have had both pairs at home for a couple of weeks and the smaller speakers are winning so far, but what to listen too...? They are into their doom and prog metal and at the moment Herbie Hancock and Yussaf Kammal are on my play list.

Mental.
Got some sexy new Dalis last week thanks to my PCB sales
Was looking for a richer sounding speaker more suited to rock and Class A amplification. They saw off the Spendor D9 comfortably.

Re: Varnish connoisseurs
I've got Isoacoustic Gaia on my speakers and I can't recommend them enough. Tighter bass and a more focused stereo image. I **** ye not.
Expensive, but not ridiculously so. They do pretty much the same job as the Townshend Seismic Podiums which are 4x the price and 4x the ugly.
