:palm: so no double blind test, no comparison of cables and a ton of caveats. What's the point of writing 3-4 paragraphs about close minded internet bullies, comparing them with religious fundamentalists and homophobes without providing any evidence at all?

It is nice to see a different perspective, but as always it uses the same old arguments, if you've not heard the exact cable, in the exact system, then you can't comment ever and now your a bully for taking a cynical stand and asking for any empirical data to back the claims up.

double blind is the only way to conduct any test and get meaningful results. If there were any scientific basis behind it, they would use it.

The writer was very verbose when it came to insults, but he then described himself as a blubbering idiot when it came to the 'science stuff'. it would have been very easy for them to have done that double blind, so easy that a child could have set it up and explained it to them.

Providing it harms no one else, then I don't care what people do or spend their money on. Doesn't mean I agree with it or that I'll keep silent and not share my opinion the matter :problem:

kernow wrote:Noise is also pivotal to each software player’s SQ: 1) Caching audio into RAM before playback reduces the number of hard-drive reads during playback and so reduces electrical noise. 2) Sleeker software code can limit the need for the player to call on CPU clock cycles and again reduce associated electrical noise. iTunes and Windows Media Player are not designed this way. Neither nor Apple nor Microsoft streamline their code for optimal sound quality through noise minimisation.

Computer audio guys are the most mental of all
This all sounds valid for a computer of maybe the year 1996; but come on who still uses a machine having such issues? :lolno:

It's bonkers. There are reasons why one piece of software might sound better than another, but none of those reasons is noise.

I've said it before but I can tell the difference between hi def audio and standard CD quality if I'm working on something, but I know that's purely down to the resampling code being able to do a better job - I should check if the software always works in 24/96 internally or not though... In any other environment you're relying on your DAC doing an identical job with whatever the bit source is (SACD, CD, WAV).

Hey kern, are those SDS plates really that much better than the Michell tendercups? They're a bit of an eyesore.
Although I suppose I'd have to raise the motor to use the tendercups.

Hmm. They'd have to make an audible difference because the deck looks better without them. I wish they did a smaller size. I'd prefer spike shoes/cups because they stop the feet moving and I imagine the feet are more prone to being nudged on the SDS plates than on the wooden rack. Might just leave it as is.

There's an Aries mini out by the end of the year. That could be a real bargain at £375. Even has a DAC in it.
I've been very impressed by Auralic's stuff.

Aries Mini + Chord 2Qute = £1370 or less and would make a great digital system.

It certainly looks the part. A Jadis could work, too.

Performance wise I rather have a s/h Mark Levinson 360s dac which is financially quite a sensible option nowadays, (still does 96/24, good enough for me) and use my old cdp and Airport Express with it.
