There is no way a piece of cable will affect the contents of the bitstream. Well, not in a positive way.

I know, 1's and 0's and all that and I'm a sceptic of digital cables myself but one of these cables sounds smoother and more balanced while the other sounds crisper and more punchy (but a bit bright at the top). They're very, very slight differences in tone but I did a blind test and everything. You could argue one's losing something it shouldn't but neither are cheap cables.

No plans to order any super rocks yet though, don't worry :awe:

People swear they can see a difference in PQ with expensive HDMI cables too. It's total BS. You ethier get a picture / sound or you don't. There is nothing more to it.

Noticed my dealer stock SME decks now.

Yours for only £28k.
I'd expect cocaine and hookers if I booked a demo.

Is that an SME V arm?

I appreciate there a diminishing returns at the high end, but the £10-200k stuff must be for people with nothing else to spend money on

Ah, I could only make out the V. so it's not £23-25k extra for the deck over an SME V :p

It's all opinion, but the gyrodec and sme arm is the best looking (ignore sound) deck available imo at any price point.

And I honestly think it is just aesthetics when you hit £2k+

If I was shopping in that price bracket the first thing I'd do is buy a different house with the perfect listening room and decorate it with that in mind because you'd need it to hear any difference.

Aren't those SME 20 decks only about 5k 2nd hand? That's some depreciation there. Compared to this is a Gyro sane insanity and retains its value much better on the 2nd hand market.

Thank god, that my Technics Mk. 5 is all the deck i ever need - also the only item that didn't depreciate over time 8-)

To summarise that article I pointed to, it concludes that your speakers are the main thing that makes a difference to the sound.

I think kern has been saying that for a long time. I imagine people buying sme decks have already spent ridiculous amounts on speakers in the first place though.

Absolutely, and in my experience the margin of difference components make to the sound reduces as you follow the chain back to your source component. With digital at least.

That's true.
When I was shopping for speakers i could listen to a stand mounted and a floor stander equipped with the same drivers and having the same footprint.
The difference was staggering (and clearly audible). What I learned that day is that the size of the speaker cabinet is on of the most important aspects of the sound you will get and a small speaker will never sound as good as a bigger one when everything else is the same.
