Hello,
While these releases are intended to be enjoyed primarily as collectors items (and come with download codes), we’ve worked with our pressing plant to ensure our coloured vinyl is of the very highest quality it can be. That said, it must be noted that audio pressed on non-black vinyl is susceptible to higher surface noise levels, this is because darker colours are denser and their pigments reflect sound better then lighter colours. Minor blemishes and colour variations are also a known issue, but should not have any impact on the audio reproduction.
Thanks,
One Little Indian
Non black vinyl (coloured) is supposed to have a higher wear then black vinyl because they obviously can't add a certain carbon byproduct. That's what I've heard.
Be careful, a shorting tube can damage the amplifier. To be honest I'm always a bit scared using mine
I hope it didn't get damaged though because one pair of tubes turned electric blue inside and i heard like a thud in this channel when i turned it off.
Hopefully it's "only" about 200£ for new tubes and nothing else.
Just been listening to this 2011 remaster of Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Sounds absolutely wonderful. If only there was an issue of Californication like this
After a complete shambles of a returns process I got my replacement Audeze EL-8 (closed back). I'd like to say they were worth the wait.... Nicely made but ear-bleeding treble. I'll give them a bit longer but looks like i'll be moving them on in favour of something like the Oppo PM-3.
Nice spot but I'd be happier with a NM second or third press for less monies. Still haven't bagged a Paranoid.
Got myself a Clearaudio Smart Matrix Pro RCM by the way. I would be embarrassed to admit to spending so much if not for the fact it's a wonderfully engineered bit of kit and worth every penny.
Search the Steve Hoffman forums. The forum's search aint so hot so often googling something like "stevehoffman best vinyl pressing of..." will find the thread you need. Generally speaking, early pressings sound best. New reissues are likely to be from digital remasters. There are exceptions though, analogue remasters by respected engineers like Mr Hoffman himself.
