Re: Spectre's Manly Mancave - Now with NNC and OutRun2!

Thanks for the pointers buddy, I'll move the part number to the other end of the sticker. I'll remove the UK bit, but I'd like to keep them on there as otherwise you can quite easily apply the decals on the wrong sides and end up with the italy flag colours upside down. I've seen pictures of cabs where this very mistake has been made. :palm:

I'm also usually a stickler for originality, however I have seen pictures of other reproduction stickers (or official UK variants?) where an italy badge has been added, so that gave me the idea. They're not original after all and they'll never match the Japanese foil decals anyway, so why not jazz them up a touch and make it completely clear that they are reproductions at the same time. Anyway, printing multiple versions is not an issue, I'm sure most people would want them as close to the originals as possible.

I like the middle one the most, as you say it doesn't overdo the italian flag colours and uses the same modern version of the logo found on the monitor sides. The crest style does look nice, but personally it would bug me having two different ferrari badges on different artwork.

Ah yes, the watermarks... :lolno:

The gullboxes are glued shut with some kind of plastic glue, you can tell where the two halves are slightly fused together. Just put your flat head screw driver in the groove at an angle and give it a tap with the hammer. I had to do that in 3 or 4 places on one side, then I was able to pry apart the two halves and the seam just came apart. You'll end up with a few marks on the casing, but it's the only way to open them and better a working speaker than bin fodder. ;)

NOS seat back sticker applied :awe:

Used the ruler method and ended up with a very clean and straight application, no air bubbles :awe:

I just wondered what your plans are regarding the topper / lightbox / head display whatever you want to call it.

Basically it shouldn't be impossible to have something cut, welded and powdercoated that would look decent enough, should it?

Trying to source an original right now, but I may consider making one if needed. I'd probably just make the top and sides out of mdf and borrow a naomi ballast, can't be that tricky to put something together.

There is always the big Initial D topper and I already have marquee designs for those, but personally I'm not a fan of them, too bloody big.

I hear you. Got a Sega Rally twin incoming and plan to make either a single out of it and sell the other half or make even two individual singles out of it (with the other one being dedicated to another game - not sure yet which one, though).

The problem I got is that they'd look kinda stupid next to the Strike Fighter without their own lightboxes... Thought about the MDF way too, but I dunno if this would look that good

You could chop down a twin lightbox and make it into a single, although I'm not sure how well this would work with sega rally due to the shape.

If I could pick up an f355/or2 lightbox cheaply enough I would go that route.

Have ordered a test run of base side and lid graphics, plus the line stickers. Should be here by the end of the week, so will post some pictures of how they come out. I've ordered a couple of spare sets, so will have some for sale if the quality is up to scratch 8-)

You'll have to bring them around for an inspection.

I have a topper from a virtua fighter 3 (the candy-style upright) I reckon that might make a very nice fit on an OR2 cab...I'll measure it up later in the week.

Top job! :awe: I imagine that stripping, cleaning, reassembling a pedal assembly is very complex. Is it or was it rather easy?

It's actually not too bad, as you can see I kept the two pots with levers and harness all together as one piece. That way there are very few small parts to be cleaned. Gave the springs and pots a good spray of white grease before putting the covers back on.

The print run of my artwork arrived yesterday and it's come out really good :awe:

This is self adhesive vinyl (white back) with a gloss laminate (see my sexy finger print in the first closeup!). A few notes; in some images you can see a grainy pattern, this is just the camera picking up the laminate, you don't notice it with the naked eye. The edges look rough, this is just the backing paper, the decals are cut perfectly. Lastly there are a few minor imperfections (obviously because these are "hand made" and not a mass produced factory piece). Overall they look very very good 8-)

I've compared these 1:1 with andygeezer's original japanese foil decals and some other "official" EU pieces by Sega. Of course they are not as nice as the japan spec as they lack the reflective foil, however I think they are very nice for a reproduction piece and are better than some of the official EU stuff. The line stickers in particular are a huge improvement on the EU originals as the colours are terrible on those (the red is orange!). If you can't get original japanese foil decals, from comparisons I honestly think these are the next best thing so I'm very pleased with them. :awe:

Massive progress courtesy of andygeezer. Won a type 1 chihiro on eBay, took it to andy and for a very generously small fee he converted it to a type 3 complete with or2sp on internal ssd for me! Best guy in the hobby :awe:

He also made me a much needed midi cable, so I now have working force feedback too (thanks also to gary for selling me the midi board at a very fair price) 8-)

After cleaning out the base board (it was so chocka full of dust it was a small miracle the fans were still spinning) I put a few credits in her last night. The Mrs likes the game too, which is rare! :D
