Quite a few queries. I've owned 3 driving cabs now and they have progressively cost me more and more as I jump from one system to the next. Previously I owned a European twin Ridge Racer cabinet, which was an old System 22 motherboard. Frankly, it was fantastic and Rave Racer just made it all the better! It took up far too much room however and it left me with little scope of purchasing any other cabinets so I sold it to another member.jonny5 wrote:how so...you make me nervous nowParris wrote:Ooooooooo, Outrun 2.... make sure to post a thread about the project.....im very interested in seeing the process of converting it....my biggest concern was the cost.....is chihiro hardware very different than other driving hardware or is it some other issue you are referring to?
i know next to nothing about driving cabs, but i have developed a pretty serious outrun 2 addiction.....so i figured it would be cheaper to find a used driving cab locally, get the outrun 2 hardware and whatnot from the 'geez-meister and do the conversion myself rather than getting ruined importing a full cab.....would be a fun project.....but as you said there would be a LOT for me to learn on the fly....but thats half the fun for me
out of curiousity, for your project how much do you think its gonna add up to in the end....rough estimate?
and what kind of driving cab is that...its quite nice....and how much was it?
i sourced the north american outrun2sp cab locally but its butt-ugly....looks like a kiddie ride......and they want $5k....im hoping to do it for MUCH less.....am i dreaming?
I almost got my hands on Ridge Racer V, but it fell through when the seller of the Namco System 246 motherboard and disc lost contact with me due to the Killer Cabs site disappearing. I was also in the process of purchasing a twin version of the cabinet I now have.
It was a Sega Touring Cars cabinet. It is very common and has been used on a number of different setups. JNC sell them for roughly £250+ partially equipped, when they have them in stock (i.e. they will not have any arcade motherboards, games titles and may require some work / parts to get them working with the set up you decide upon).
I roughly estimated the full cabinet, once complete, somewhere in the region of £700.00 baring in mind what Andy Geezer has confirmed to me in that the Sega Touring cab does NOT come equipped with force feedback installed or the Initial D card reader. I decided for the lower cost, I could live with not having either. That said, on the whole this hasn't actually cost me anything as I sold a pile of hardware via eBay and various threads and actually purchased bits and pieces a month at a time. Never actually touched my bank account, which is the deal I have with my wife. So long as my hobby doesn't venture into the bank account and I pay for it through doing deals, buying and selling etc, then ok!
In relation to my comments on your pending unit, it was the use of hardware that had me interested as frankly the cost of the motherboard alone would be roughly the cost of my entire cabinet!
