I need them mainly for watching films, playing games, and listineng to music through Spotify on my iPad/iPhone (all at home - will not be used in publis/on the move etc).
Will be connected up to my Yamaha AV reciever so need your thoughts on this?
Was looking at the Grado range but the open-ness puts me off as the whole point is to be quiter when others are in the room etc.
Can these be beat at that sort of price (really, thats my max on the budget) and are they worth the extra over somthing half the price?
Let me know what you think you little beauties.
PS. I currently us the iPhone headphones and some £15 Sony on ear headphones so my standards are low.
I'll sell you a lightly soiled (used) pair of AKG 550s for £60 inc. Nowt wrong with them, I liked them that much I ended up getting AKG 701QJ soon after.
I think I have a headphone addiction. I got some KEF M500s today. £100 off and I've fancied trying them for a while as they're well regarded on head-fi. Will put them up against my B&W P7 and Sennheiser Momentum tonight and will sell the loser (probably the Momentums).

Really? Do you have the Over ear momentum? I'm a big fan of them, though they are a but bassy, I think the look, feel & sound great not to mention you can wear them outside, unlike the P7.
LMK your thoughts on the KEF, never even considered them.
What happened to those well funny yokes you were going to buy? The two Alba clock radios strapped to your ears or whatever they were called.
I'm as bad as Pangyplops though. Got 900 million pairs of cans and IEM's. Those AKG's though are wonderful. I have the Audio Technica Bluetooth ones too, only available in Japan. As far as BT headphones go, they are rather juicy.

Ah yes, I'd still love some STAX but I'd want an energiser (amp) with valves so it would have to go somewhere other than my rack which would leave me with a source issue. Maybe I'll get a desktop setup some day but for now I'm considering upgrading my Audezes for Christmas instead (so start saving for my LCD-2's Mark, they're phenomenal with a Burson amp ).
I also tried out the Gardo sr80e and they are very nice but the leakage make them no good for my needs but nice and comfy but thought they seemed a little plastic in the build front.
Overall, I like some others for a more punchy bass (in films etc) over the k550 but for music and clarity and also the fact they are true over ear, I plumed for them in the end.

Would an in line amp improve anything on them?
A little but not a lot I would imagine. You get more bang for buck amplifying less sensitive open back cans. Plugging them into your receiver should be enough.

You bought the on-ear momentums? The over ears are in a different league and relatively cheap form amazon.es (£140 inc)
I bought the wife a Sonons 1 (well 2). All new sonons gear comes with a years free deezer just now, which was a big draw for me.
So far I'm liking it. Windows 8 app is well integrated unlike spotify and it works flawlessly with my squeezebox classic. Iphone app is pretty good too.
