Undrium. A remake of Underwurlde. https://bitglint.itch.io/undrium
It's completely free. If it was only sold on a 1000+ Dollar cartridge for a system more powerful than a PS5 it would be praised all over the world as a masterpiece.

Ginga Force and Natsuki Chronicles are both 90% off on all platforms, grabbed both for the PS4 for $3.50, I think on Steam it's $2. I think these games are a bit **** but I used to have the first on the 360.

Re: I'm currently playing:
Currently balls deep in Lara Croft, Tomb Raider. It's my first time giving Lara Croft, Tomb Raider my full attention since '96. Excellent remaster, quietly fondled by the guy behind Openlara, which was a masterstroke by the publishers as Lara Croft, Tomb Raider has been largely unmolested in the process.
It's quite incredible how well this holds up. Digital controls and dated graphics aside, the genre really hasn't evolved much in nearly 30 years. It was 90% there on first attempt, which is remarkable. One of the most groundbreaking games ever.
The sequels suck, of course. Completely missing the point of what made the original so good.

Re: I'm currently playing:
I remember playing through Lara Croft, Tomb Raider when it was only recently released, on PC, solidly over the course of about 48 hours in extremely long sessions. One of my fondest gaming memories, wonderful game if only for the sheer atmosphere it conveyed.
And the sequels do indeed suck. 2 isn't absolutely terrible but beyond that, nah.
I've been gradually working my way through NES Super Mario Bros 3 over recent months. Getting close to clearing it (with save states). The latter half of World 6 is a seriously large difficulty spike.

Re: I'm currently playing:
That’s exactly it. The atmosphere is still just as engrossing. The sequel is alright, but the game veers mere into set piece action. The original is so well paced and interesting.

Re: I'm currently playing:
I only ever owned Tomb Raider on the Sega Saturn and never finished it, I remember it was the pleb version since the PSX one looked way better. Missed the boat on the entire series, never held any interest to me, but I can see how it was a huge influence on games like Uncharted.

They really did nail the atmosphere with it and it really does engage you still to this day ,I still love playing the original every now and again if to do nothing but climb to the highest point to swan dive off of !

Re: I'm currently playing:
Tomb Raider felt immense. I remember briefly playing it in a friends house and running out to buy it as soon as I was able to save up 50 quid. Real sense of 'this is the future of 3D gaming!' playing it at the time.

Re: I'm currently playing:
You're making me want to play Lara Croft, Tomb Raider.
I got engrossed in the first on PSX, skipped every other. 2 seemed boring enough. The first had a sense of magic and lone discovery. The following games felt like awkward navigation through a mess of lazy architecture, between cheesy cutscenes. I wasn't certain that this isn't mainly my nostalgia though. It was the first 3D game like this, I've never got on with any since tbh.

I've just got around to playing A Short Hike. A single dev made the game and it is obvious how much love went into it.
Five years ago, I wouldn't have played anything like this. It's refreshing to realise your tastes can change and there are a lot of great games out there still.
I've also been playing a fair bit of Beat Saber on PSVR2. Its pretty good exercise on some of the levels.

Divers Dream / Dolphins Dream on the Playstation 1.
Chilled out low poly scuba and diving adventure fun from Konami.
Played this briefly back in the day but only recently rediscovered after having stumbled across the soundtrack.

I've played a little bit of Beat Saber and I also just bought Synth Riders this week and played a few tracks on that. Rhythm game wise I've still been playing Spin Rhythm XD more than anything else, there is VR support coming for that soon, can't wait for that

I bought Max Mustard recently as well and I've played most of the way through the first world. The core platforming is nothing ground breaking from what I've played so far but its fun to experience in VR and it's very well done IMO, some of the 'co-op' sections add a nice twist too.
Arcade Paradise VR / Bog Brush Simulator 2K24 looks fun from some of the game play I've seen although the trailer is pretty poor.

I don't want to spoil A Short Hike either but will say that I feel compelled to 100% it which is unheard of for me!FrancoB wrote: April 25th, 2024, 4:06 pm

I bought Synth Riders after seeing your reply and have to say it is decent! Some good tracks and it is more physical than Beat Saber. I feel like I've had a good amount of exercise today

Are you playing on PSVR? Drop me your Playstation ID if so. You can whip me at that just like Beatstar

Another good game on PSVR is Pistol Whip. It's a bit like Super Hot meets the Matrix, meets a rhythm game. I highly recommend that one too!

Re: I'm currently playing:

Well done! I think I climaxed and reached the peak a little too early in A Short Hike. I tried to do a lot of the side stuff on the way up but I know I missed a fair bit. I was fairly spent by that point though and didn't end up cleaning up the remainders.cRacKh0rN wrote: April 26th, 2024, 9:31 amI don't want to spoil A Short Hike either but will say that I feel compelled to 100% it which is unheard of for me!FrancoB wrote: April 25th, 2024, 4:06 pm

The chill factor reminded me a little bit of The Touryst so I ended up buying that (again) on Steam and have been playing it on my Deck.
Glad to hear you and Mark are feeling Synth Riders. The music is deffo more my jam. I do need to find some more space to play VR in general, I'm playing it in my office at the moment to tray and avoid randomly thrusting in the living room with a head set on whilst the Mrs is watching First New Marriage Date on Love **** Island or whatever it is

I don't have PSVR I'm afraid, I'm using a Quest 3. Just had a look though and apparently there are 'cross-platform social features'. I don't know if that means you can share/see high scores across platform though... I'll try and dig around. I did enjoy playing Beatstar though.... I was hoping you were going to come back and beat some of my scores

Had a quick look at Pistol Whip and it looks great. I've only got into 'modern' VR again recently and I'll well behind. I did play through Superhot recently and enjoyed that so I think this will be right up my strasse too.
I would imagine **** goggles are somewhat compulsory on Synth Riders

I actually bought this a couple of nights ago and have put a few hours in. Most of the game so far are not really arcade games but they're still pretty fun non the less. For someone like me who is more interested in **** about with games than actually playing them it's pretty perfectFrancoB wrote: April 25th, 2024, 4:06 pm

I completed arcade paradise. The washing is a grind at first but it lessens when you get a few machines and unlock some of the achievements on them, then they really rake in the cash. The story has some surprising twists and turns too.
