The volume buttons don't seem to work on the iPhone 4 out of the box, only the centre button.

kernow wrote:Uhm, not any as such, make a thread on the wam stating yer budget.

Or ask me some stuff :awe: would probably go for a MM cart to begin with. Get something which will take upgrades too. Ask bigdur he'll assist definitely and come set it up.

Or just buy an orbe/sme5 and be done with it pretty much and add your cart + phono amp on. Your pre might have an MM input no? That'll do to begin with.
I'm going to buy new from my local dealer so I can have a listen first and so they can set it up initially. Budget for everything including phono stage is £2-2.5k. The front runner is the Project 6 Perspex. If I get the bug I might move on to a Gyrodec eventually.

Just need to brush up on my jargon.

Why not separate it further and have the LCD display in a 3rd box and record player in a room, in the 70s.

I bet it sounds exactly the same as every other CD player.

:wtf:

That is some serious money for Panasonic kit and way beyond the territory of Marantz, Denon and Yamaha. I don't know if they can really compete against the more desirable brands like Esoteric, Accuphase or all the British and Americans brands.

I can't imagine anyone buying this. It's like a Casio for Rolex money.

kernow wrote:It's probably pretty **** good to be fair. Some of the top end Sony stuff for these prices (they have some $87000 floorstanders) is supposed to be very good, it's just a name at the end of the day - and a bit of snobbery involved with it ;)
It has to be. But using my watch analogy both the Casio and the Rolex do tell the time. 40k is audio jewelry money and I just don't think the Technics brand is exotic enough or has the amount of cachet to warrant this price.

What would you buy if you had 40k to throw at hifi kit?

I'd got for either Wilson Audio or Sonus Faber speakers and pair them with Spectral, McIntosh, Audio Research or Shindo Lab. *drool*

I don't know enough about summit-fi to choose really but McIntosh stuff looks like serious kit and Hugo has impressed me so much I'd want to hear some more Chord Electronics, although I'm not sure about Class D amps.

I doubt I could get away with massive posh speakers in this room though. Took me long enough to get the BBGs under control.
