Personally I think that these cabs could look very good in the right hands, only problem is that I’m a ham fisted fool with power tools so I’m ruled out straight away :?

A Naomi to SD I can do, but that’s about it.

I reckon you could cut away (Jigsaw / angle grinder) that service hatch thing on top, the bit without the cover & sit the screen on there somehow.

If I could see one in the flesh I imagine I’d buy it, but as it stands it would sit in an unfinished state for ever if it came to me. I’ve still not T-cut the Astros I bought

Okay,

All the pictures I've done, I've done without any drilling etc.. I've played enough around with it to give people enough ideas.

I've actually played a few games on it, and found this configuration to be best.

Cables go inside the cabinet, so it is tidy.. 8-)

I should put VT3 as I got a couple of those at the Shed, but I loathe sports games.

The white section, I think would be best suited to stereo speakers, with mid and tweaters, or a second LCD (like Delta32).

I gotta be honest I really think the cab is pretty ugly...but kudos to Andy for all the hard work!

For me the LCD would have to be a tad bigger to fit the look, lower down, and more squared off. The problem with it at the moment is that it looks like it has just had a TV bolted to it (obviously), whereas you really want it to look as native as possible.

It also REALLY needs to be made into an SD! The middle box section just does it no favours.

Whats odd, everyone that has seen it in the "flesh" has liked it!! And suprised it is only a few cms bigger than a Uni width wise!! I should really take pictures of it it next to a Uni cab, as size wise it isn't much different.

It doesnt help that it only has a standard 32" LCD on it either, it doesnt have the same profile as the cab is supposed to have (with the light at the top, boxy frame etc.). If this is still going ahead and I get one I would stick a 37" on it and see if that balances out the fat **** on that thing.

Not that Im saying a bit of junk in the trunk is a bad thing ;)

Andy - take a picture of it next to a Naomi UR so its in perspective - I think because its black it looks bigger than it actually is.

I must admit it doesn't look as bad when you see it, but the designer deffinately needs a kicking for being lazy and not doing his homework - why Sega didn't just do an LCD conversion kit for the Uni is beyond me.

Plus points :-

Huge PCB Area - no problems fitting anything in there (even my watercooled PC would fit inside with room to spare).
Flexible CP unit - the CP box is deep with plenty of clearance, Happ trackballs, spinners, flightsticks etc would fit no problem you could just squeeze a 4 player CP in too.
Oblong CP - going to be a simple job to make good custom CP's for this 2mm Ali and some carbon fibre from Halfords and your sorted.
Height adjustable - it can bre made into a sit-down but the CP is a bit higher from the ground than a candy (so no problem getting short enough stools).
Fully dismantleable - just like the naomi it unbolts and pulls apart - great for taking upstairs & sticking in the back of the car.

Minus points :-

Its ugly - no getting away from this - its not going to win any prizes for its looks.
The bits that are missing are going to be time consuming & a fiddle to make - if you want it to look good.
The missing monitor, speakers & monitor mount are a problem but given the price of a complete unit you should be able to get round this.

Conclusion

It could have been a lot worse and with a bit of creative modding would make a great MAME/Console cab, there's too much missing to "arcade" it which is probably why Sega offered them to Andy.

Do the Maths.

Lindy + PC + monitor + I-PAC + Speakers & Amp + metal sheet to make missing bits = £1,200 for a top spec MAME cab. Would you be able to sell it for more than that on ebay?

I did wonder why you had a few of those orange filters! :D

Lindy's back home with me, safe and sound. Lots to do with it, its going to be a messy (=fun) couple of months in the games room at my house sorting it out!

I personally think the cab looks nice, but I doubt anyone would really want to MAME it with a gash LCD screen. The images would look aweful if you are after something remotely looking like the arcade image..... widescreen makes that look even worse imo.

The perfect way of utilising one of these would either be with original hardware or of course a current gen console. Fighting games are what something like this is made for with the correct CP.

All imo of course.
