WG U5000 - any use?
Probably one for grantspain but...
I have two cabs both with knackered monitors.
1) Egret-II
2) Naomi universal
There's someone selling NOS WG U5000's which he says are 27" but looking at the spec sheet look like the UK 29" size. The schematic has a jumper for 15/24Khz so would be Ideal for the Egret & would be handy for my JVS-JAMMA setup.
So my questions are
1) Is it what would be called a 29" screen in the UK
2) Will it fit in an Egret-II / Naomi
3) Are they any good
4) What should I be offering him for one.
5) Is there a tri-sync chassis that will fit it

Re: WG U5000 - any use?
the u5000 will fit the egret 2,it was the american wg alternative to the nanao ms8 monitor
the tube will have the same curvature
the way to cross reference a tube size is look at the tube code on the sticker of the tube, for example
a68ksa30x-the number 68 is the size in centimeters which is 26.77-basically 27 inches but known as 29" in the u.k
so if the tube is the exact same size then it should just drop straight in
these were not the best monitors, they run the colour drives very hot and you have to be careful with not forgetting to plug the controller board in(as it will fry)
also important to note these had a weird yoke so getting a generic replacement would be almost impossible
i would not touch one with a barge pole unless it was less than £100
there are very good alternatives though,if you can get your hands on a cheap 29" crt tv(not a sony though) Joey at jomac has in stock a dual sync chassis which fits and i am told is as good as the nanao for quality and i think they are around $145 aus
as for your naomi, depends on if you want tri sync or vga support-is the tube broken on both of these?

Re: WG U5000 - any use?
The tube has terrible burn-in on both machines and one has crap convergence too. Both chassis are fine.
I have a 29" VGA presentation monitor with a knackered chassis thats an exact fit in the Egret I might email jomac with the spec & yoke readings.
He wants £150 inc VAT for them and they are NOS still sealed in boxes. If the chassis on them is rubbish is then I'll try jomac first.

Is there any chance of cutting a deal (like no VAT) if you buy a few Pen?penrhos wrote:The tube has terrible burn-in on both machines and one has crap convergence too. Both chassis are fine.

Re: WG U5000 - any use?
Unlikely, He insists they're worth £300 - but the tube is an "A68AGD01X" so they are 29" and should be a straight swap for either cab, pity the chassis has got a poor reputation for reliability.

Re: WG U5000 - any use?
WG take their measurements by viewable area, everyone else does it by crt size corner to corner..
So.. USA 27" = 29"
USA 19" = 20" etc etc..

Re: WG U5000 - any use?
I have one of these monitors here that I just acquired in a trade with an op. It is brand new and boxed still with polystyrene inserts, exactly the same reference on the tube etc.
I have no use for it, not having any cabs with a monitor this large.
I am looking for £120 for it for a quick sale.
Its located near Hull and I would prefer collection but I would allow a courier to collect it at the buyers risk.
Cheers
Danny

I might be interested - have you fired it up to check if it works?

Re: WG U5000 - any use?
Not tested it personally but it is brand spanking new.
The op who I got it from has had it out of the box to test it though and I trust him having dealt with him numerous times before over the past 8 years.
I think I do have a cab with the same connections so I will be able to test it out if you like.
