Final Fight
Street Fighter 2
I was a right little scamp back then
I would get two penny coins, put them together and rap tin foil over them thus creating a "fake pound coin".
Most of time when I inserted the coin in a machine it worked
Ahhh it was heaven getting 4/5 credits for 2 pence
I miss those days

Star Wars cockpit in 1984.
We used to go on holiday to Scarborough when I was a kid, I remember this big caravan park called Oasis or something like that. They had a big arcade hall, that was the only machine I even looked at, even though there were loads more.
My favourite machine has been the Naomi ever since Sega Park opened in Edinburgh.
I couldn't even tell you where the nearest public arcade cab is now, never mind amusement hall that had anything but gambling machines in it

Re: Your first arcade game played/or the one that got you hooked
The first game i've played and hooked me instantly to video games was Rampage, the arcade could be played with three players and i still remember playing with my parents when we were to our usual vacation place when i was a child, such a great memory.
I wish i'd get a Rampage cab someday...

Re: Your first arcade game played/or the one that got you hooked
The first arcade games I remember playing were Double Dragon and Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja (can't remember which I played first, think it was Bad Dudes in a pizza parlour in the US). Needless to say they both blew me away, especially Double Dragon, man I was absolutely addicted to that game.
I need not...the NORMALS!

Re: Your first arcade game played/or the one that got you hooked
Got the bug with Invaders when it first came out - yes I remember it arriving shiny brand new into the local arcade down at the sea front, but it had to be Robotron which was the ultimate in addictable game play - I still play it today and can loose hours just trying to get that elusive 1 million points - but if Eugene Jarvis has never managed it yet, then I don't feel too bad

Re: Your first arcade game played/or the one that got you hooked
My first memory is of a cocktail cab in a small pub where I grew up. Can't remember the game, but I'm sure it was asteroids, and then some footy game.
At home I was hooked on my VIC20, so Duck Shoot, Omega Race and a Frogger rip-off were my favourites.
Arcades proper didn't kick-off for me till I was in my early teens with a lot of the Sega stuff being my favourite, especially the R360, and probably SF2.
SF2:CE on the Megadrive sealed my Gaming fate though

Re: Your first arcade game played/or the one that got you hooked
I never really got SF2 until CE on the MD. No arcades near me really, and the only time I went to them was the yearly (if we were lucky) visit to Blackpool. We used to get the travelling pikey fair, which always had Rainbow edition.kernow wrote:SF2 world warrior for sure, nothing else came close.
I loved the old Kebab house we used to go to after clubbing back in the day. The fella there used to get his cabs of Mo. Double Dragon 2 & Virtua Cop after a **** load of beer while waiting for your food - Mastercard!

I'm not 100% sure what my first arcade game was, but in all likelyhood it was Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, of which I got the pcb this week

Re: Your first arcade game played/or the one that got you hooked
When i was around 8-9 our junior school used to have a weekly wednesday afternoon trip to the local town swimming baths, which at the time had a row of about 8-10 machines, The New Zealand Story and Rainbow Islands were my favourite ones but i also had much love for Wonderboy and Robocop which were also present
Couple of years later and it was Final Fight that i used to love playing at the local town drug haven (arcade), for my sins i also loved the Narc machine that was in there haha
First experience of SFII was on holiday in florida just after release, i'd read about it in depth in C&VG/Mean Machines magazines so i was very excited to play it, unfortunately i was crap at it that first time (as Guile) and it wasn't until it came to the Snes that i managed to get to grips with the 6-button lay out!
