I was having a bit of a browse back through the members cabs thread and it struck me how many 1 player panels are out there.
In all the cabs I've owned over the years, I've never had a single machine with a 1 player panel. Well.. I lie, I had an AWSD about 15 years ago with a 1 player panel but immediately swapped it out for an Egret 2 player one.
For folks with a 1 player panel on machines, what's the motivation? I get the idea of a vertical shmup game being more comfortable to play with a 1 player panel smack bang in the middle, but part of me still always sees arcade machines as something best enjoyed socially with a few people, so would always hope someone would come along and sit down as a player 2 and take off with their blue ship. (not that that happens very often!)
always wanted a Seimitsu 4 button 1p astro panel for the clean vert cab look, but I have OCD and would just end up swapping it back to the 2p panel when I want VS games. even shmups are fun in 2p mode with a friend, and sometimes in Progear I play on the 2p side because you get different character outfits. did want a 1p Viewlix at one point but would feel mental since it's just a 1080p tv with a fight stick strapped to it, can do that sitting in front of my OLED in 4k and a hori stick

Ergonomics. Also, 90% of the time, I play alone.

I’m short on space, so if I shove a cab in a corner, I’m not squashed against a wall to play.
Sitting in the centre of the screen is ideal.
It’s a cleaner look too. A little more minimalist.
I have extra two player panels for all of my cabs too, but as I literally never get to play with anyone else then one player panels make the most sense.
I have one of my NAC tate cabs equipped with a 1p panel. It is great for ergonomy and looks as stated above, but I only would do this when you have more cabs. Playing with friends is of course the best experience in my eyes, but for vetical bullet hell games you want to 1cc or enjoy deeper it is the way to go.
I just sit in nearer the middle and use 1 or 2 player side depending on game ,noone to be fighing with for space either way @o1s1n Ibara makes a difference here dyne can bite me !
<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"
I can always swap back the 2L16B it was made with one Arcade Japan 8B loom & one official Sega 6B (2p red JST) modded to 8 all new buttons, JLF sticks, shaft covers, dust covers & ball tops.
I really need to take Off that film
The 2L12B is a UK panel so not as nice finish wise.
