Nanao MS9 with Samsung tube
I have this Samsung tube A68KVL74X02, it came from a Sega driving cab, does anyone know or tried to do a yoke swap??, the idea is to transplant a Toshiba A68KJU96X yoke into the Samsung tube and use a Nanao chassis with it.

Re: Nanao MS9 with Samsung tube
I'm not sure if the tube reference is that one you posted but, I have a Samsung tube that was pulled from a Le Mans 24H and before I got my hands on a Toshiba, It worked wonders with my Nanao MS9.
I can mesure the yoke resistances if you want. No inductance tho.

Re: Nanao MS9 with Samsung tube
I'm aware that there is also a "01" variant of this tube A68KLV74X01 that came stock with some of the later batchs of Nanao MS9-29 monitors, this one I have, the 02 has a different yoke, so most likely I will need to perform a yoke swap with one I have here that was pulled from a necked Toshiba A68KJU96X,
please do, and while you are at it, please check if your tube is a 01 or 02.

Re: Nanao MS9 with Samsung tube
Sorry, it's been a while since I've checked on these forums.
So... The tube is a Samsung A68KVL74X01 as far as I can read on the label.
The Yoke resistance reads 8.5ohm Vertical and 1.2ohm Horizontal, respectively. Hope that helps. Boy... isn't that tube an heavy sucker...

GReat, thanks, also do you lnow if it has the same curvature as the Toshiba A68KJU96X?? at least the Samasung A68KVL74X02 does fit perfectly without gaps on the Astro City.

Re: Nanao MS9 with Samsung tube
It fills without gaps in the edges, but the center is definitelly more round-shapped. Looks like an HItachi tube.
The Toshibas are less curved in the center. I have 7 29" tubes, and besides the Intervideo which is almost flat, the Toshiba's are the less curved of them all.

An Hitachi tube like a Sega Racer cabinet. Big, fat and round shaped. Beautiful contrast and color, but fat. Forget those Super Neo tubes. Those have musch less visual curvature than the Hitachi ones on Sega cabinets.

The Hitachi tube from a Sega cab is weird. It's super round, but the corners actually line up with semi-curved tubes found paired with 29e31s and MS-2930/1/3/4. I put one in a Net City in this post:

I actually know a few that absolutely love the Shangai Novel. And to be honest, while it's not a great tube, it looks much prettier than the Hitachi. Almost flat.
Doesn't look bad at all with a modded Rodotron. I like it.

Re: Nanao MS9 with Samsung tube
Ok, I have made some measurements on the Samsung tube/yoke
Vertical coil: 18,1 mH
Hor. coil: 0,33 mH
I have looked it up online and it seems this yoke readings match the A68KVL74X03 tube which could work with a MS9 chassis so I might not need to do a yoke swap, I have also been told that indeed this yoke might work with a Sanwa PM1745 chassis, I don't know what to do now ....

It's definitely close enough to a MS9 that you can try it without worrying that you'll blow something up.

Re: Nanao MS9 with Samsung tube
I'm not sure, resistance on this yoke reads
Hor.coil 0,8 ohm
vert. 7,6 ohm
Isn't it that a resistance equal or over 1.0 ohm is needed for a MS9?

Re: Nanao MS9 with Samsung tube
Yeah..out of the 6 MS9 chassis I currently own, only 2 are working and sitting on their respective cabinets, I don't want to risk them while doing tests, I will try to fix at least 1 or 2 first then I will post here how it went.
