Current Arcade Situation in Tokyo

Post by CAPnCOM »

Hi all, this is my second topic; I’d like to give back to the community after so many helped me in getting my Astro City working.
For those who checked out that thread (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=41624) you may recall I live in Tokyo. I’m sure I’m not the only one based in Tokyo on this forum, but anyway I haven’t seen anything about the current status of arcades here since the Crowdfunding post back in April, so I thought I would do a little post to keep you informed.

Th crowdfunding worked wonders for Mikado, so they seem to be doing fine. Arcades were permitted to reopen on June 11th, and since then it seems they have all been putting the same safety precautions into effect: requiring masks, having disinfectant available at the entrances, and putting up dividers between the cabinets.

While I am still avoiding using the train (it’s been almost 3 months) I have been to my local arcade, Cube (in a place called Koenji), so here are some photos of these changes:

As you can see, the above practices are put into effect, but finally we can go to arcades again after over two months of them being closed, so that is a relief. Again, I haven’t hopped on the train yet so I haven’t ventured to Akihabara, but as far as I know no arcades have closed as a result of the pandemic... if you’ve heard otherwise please post here. I will continue to update this tread about arcades in Tokyo as I find out, and others are welcome to do the same.

Glad Mikado is still standing— thanks to all who donated!

Thanks for the update, good to hear what's going on.

We may need a thread for the NUC.

I assume the gamepad controller is a dummy that does not function, but is to show you the machine is USB socket enabled? and can the machine be disassembled for transport better than the vewlix? Off to find a manual ..

Thanks for checking out the post and replies. If anyone wants to know about their favorite arcades in Tokyo let me know, and I’ll do my best to look into it or pay a visit when possible.

I don’t know much about these cabs but surely the game pad is functional. Not sure if there is an additional USB socket, however. The cabs on the left in that 2nd photo (for SFV) don’t have a game pad already connected but rather have a USB socket.

The name of the new Namco cabinet is Grigio. Beside the USB port it also has an headphone port (minijack).

Oh man, that’s a bummer. I haven’t ventured out to Akihabara yet. Not even Shinjuku— trying to avoid train travel as much as possible. That’s sad news. I just hope HEY arcade can hang on, definitely in my top 5 and best in Akihabara, if you ask me.
