Re: [TUTO] Save or répair Deathsmiles 2 Arcade PC-PCB
UPDATE:
So it looks like you can't create 2 partitions on a CF card in later versions of Windows using a card reader.
The original CF card had 2 partitions:
Partition 1 = OS
Partition 2 = DATA
If you try to put the image onto a CF card using a card reader, then the second (data) partition does not get created.
Apparently you need what is known as a "fixed disk" CF card to do this. I imagine CAVE made their XPe image on much older OS Hardware.
A suitable alternative would be an IDE DOM (40 pins) 2GB+ - I bought a hyperdisk one, but it was a POS (don't buy those).
Looking into a good vertical IDE DOM at the moment. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Diskpart will make multiple partitions even in current versions of Windows.
You can buy IDE CF adapters, don't bother with DOM stuff its almost certainly your card reader or whatever software youre writing with causing the behaviour.
Id be tempted to go USB to IDE and IDE to CF (CF is ATA, the latter is literally just providing an interface between the pin sizes)

This doesn't seem to work with CF cards. Have you had success with creating 2 active partitions on a CF card?
Already have the IDE to CF adapter. It will load the OS off the CF card, but the DATA partition is not recognised (so the game does not launch).
Standard IDE Hard disk worked fine (both partitions created). Reason I suggested a DOM.

Yes Active primary partition, extended partition containing secondary partitions.
I reckon your adapter isn't doing a proper job - see https://www.delkin.com/blog/technical-g ... -sd-cards/, maybe try soldering a ground between pin 9 and and 50? The adapters can vary, I've had that problem in the past.

Is there another one you recommend?

That's not a CF to IDE, it's a card reader.
You need something like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Syba-SD-CF-IDE ... B000YUMLPI
Plus an IDE to USB something or other, old HDD caddy or similar might do or you're buying new https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=ide+usb&i= ... _sb_noss_1

I know That's how I'm connecting it to my PC to flash the OS/DATA image
And that's how I'm connecting the "flashed" CF card to the motherboard.cools wrote: ↑January 17th, 2020, 11:45 am You need something like this:

And I used this to flash the IDE drive (which worked):cools wrote: ↑January 17th, 2020, 11:45 am That's not a CF to IDE, it's a card reader.

I also tried connecting the CF card to the CF/IDE adapter to the above device to flash the OS/DATA image, but it doesn't want to create the second DATA partition on the CF card.
Basically anything I try on the CF card will fail to make the second DATA partition.
Standard IDE and SATA drives work, but not CF cards. I hope that makes sense.

What are you using to flash the image?
99% sure you'll only have success with the CF IDE and not the card reader.

Windows 10 had an update sometime back that broke imaging CF cards for me. I'm pretty sure someone else had that problem too. Weird, but true.
This is why I have a dedicated Windows XP PC
