For Sale: PCB Protect, a custom protection for Arcade Game PCB's

Post by ckong » October 29th, 2019, 2:39 pm

I'm introducing a new item that I make, the PCB Protect. It's a housing especially designed to protect, and brighten up, Arcade Game PCB's. The PCB Protect is made of two sheets of 6 mm thick special acrylic with a real glass look and feel, which makes it very sturdy and gives it a special appearance. I have tested the PCB Protect for its robustness in more or less gameroom conditions and it remained completely intact, as did the game board. :)

I can make a PCB Protect for any game, as long as it is a single-board game (for now, I might add dual-PCB games in the future). The PCB Protect comes as an easy to assemble kit, with all mounting hardware. I also engrave the developer's logo on top (if possible) and if you wish, also the name of the game (free optional). Included in the kit is:

- 2x 6mm acrylic sheets, glass-look, with mounting holes and one of them with an engraving
- 8x black steel Hex Socket Head Cap Screws, two sizes
- 8x black anodized aluminium standoffs, two sizes
- 4x black aluminium cap head washers
- 1x hex wrench key
- 4x rubber feet
- 16x plastic washers
- short assembly and cleaning instruction

The price depends on the size of the game board and I will need some info to make a PCB Protect for specific games. If you are interested, then please shoot me a MP. The games for which a PCB Protect is available are listed in the second post of this topic, with the price for each game. I will keep the list up to date.

The PCB Protect will be shipped from The Netherlands and shipping costs are not included in the mentioned price. Payment has to be done through Paypal, gift or otherwise. Paypal fees will be paid by the buyer.

Here are a few pics of the PCB Protect for Espgaluda (I know about the battery, it already has been removed. :) ):

Oh nice! I wish you'd have put this up sooner as I would have saved on postage! :(
Can you do a Sega STV motherboard PCB protect with the logo on the top and cutout for the cart? I can send you an EPS if you don't have the logo. ;)

Sorry about that, I finished the design of the PCB Protect only a few days ago.

I just had a look at it and I think that I can do a Sega STV motherboard. It will take some adjustments to my 'standard' design, but that should be doable. :) I will obviouly need some additional info and I will get back to you via MP in a couple of days.

Yes an STV one would be good, it's such a notoriously sensitive motherboard and a bit of extra protection would be great. Let me know if this comes together and I may just place an order myself.

Assuming one for my new primal rage will cost $1,000, PCB IS SO BIG!

It makes sense when you think about how many dinos are in it, but it's so big!

I'm working on the ST-V case, with the great help of Benimaru7. No timepath yet when it is finished, but it won't be too long. And if you want some others, just let me know which ones and I can check what info I need. :)

I noticed that there are two hardware versions, System 16A and 16B, with both a different layout. I don't know which one tyou are referring too, but I think both can be done, in time. I first will concentrate on PCB Protect for other games/mobo's, but I'll keep your request in mind.

Nice looking cases, but you really shouldn't sandwich them between two pieces of plexiglass like that. I'll quote twistedsymphony from AP, but tldr you basically create pivot points if any force hits the top.
Shorting isn't the problem, the problem is you're attaching a long lever arm into a weak perforated section of PCB which makes it really easy to snap the corners of your PCB off if your case gets bumped too hard.

the stand-offs that connect to the PCB should be as short as possible and you should use as many as possible to attach the PCB to a bottom panel only. Then the upper panel should attach to the bottom panel NOT the PCB. Doing this allows the bottom panel to hold firm and protect the PCB, and if the upper panel gets bumped that stress goes into the bottom panel as opposed to your PCB.

"sandwiching" your PCB between the upper and lower panels arguably makes your PCB less safe from damage than having no case at all.

Thx for the compliment. :) It is odd that you quote something from ArcadePRoject because I haven't posted the PCB Protect there, yet.

However, I wrote in the first post that I have done tests and the PCB Protect is very sturdy, it was part of the design specs. It can handle bumps and other inconveniences perfectly well, check this video: https://youtu.be/g2xI52JuwHU

Of course you should treat it in a normal way, as we gamers always do with games that we are fond of, I do not advise you to jump up and down on the PCB Protect in anger, because you cannot get past the high score! I don't know your gaming skill of course. :D 8-) ;) And I don't know of any gamer who has an elephant as house pet either. :-o

Having no case at all is in this case quite less safe, and far less good looking. :awe:

Thx for noticing, and yep, it is. But fortunately not on the print board and I removed it a few days ago.

Long time since I updated this post. I now have all correct measurements for the Sega ST-V motherboard and I will add the PCB Protect for it soon to the sales list (see the second post). The same goes for Guwange, Dangun Feveron, DonPachi and Dodonpachi, which all will be available soon. 8-)
