Discharging astro city monitor
So I'm following this guide at 8:13 minutes in.
What happens if the anode cap doesn't come off? Does it matter? What should I do?

If the anode cap doesn't come off then you can't remove the chassis from the monitor.
I'm watching the video without sound. Are they recommending you to remove the anode just to dismantle the cab? Unless you're removing the chassis or swapping the frame, there's no reason whatsoever to remove the anode. That's just bad advice.

He's removming the annode cap in the process of discharging the monitor.
Just discharging for safety taking the monitor out to clean the inside of the cabinet.

But it doesn't hurt to do it. It only takes an extra 15 seconds.

If you need to watch an instruction video on how to dismantle a cab adding an unnecessary step that may hurt you isn't a good idea.FcoBenitez wrote: ↑July 13th, 2019, 2:42 pm But it doesn't hurt to do it. It only takes an extra 15 seconds.
Yes it's a safety measure especially of there are kids that could touch the monitor outside of the cab. However if you're unsure I'd avoid doing it.

Re: Discharging astro city monitor
Every time you're sliding in your screw driver (or whatever make shift tool you're using) under the cap you're scratching away the high voltage insulating paint (the red circle around the anode) and putting unnecessary stress on the anode prongs.
The monitor doesn't have to be discharged if you're just moving it around.
Both MS8-29 and MS9-29 are also auto-discharging.

Re: Discharging astro city monitor
So now the color on my monitor looks off. Can my discharge attempt before cleaning the cab have something to do with that? What about the dent on the flyback in the picture?

I don't think I plugged back in the wrong connector... But scared to try the other one.
