Help wiring a Point Blank PCB

Post by guncon »

Hi. I'm new here. I need help wiring a Point Blank PCB with a Namco gun.

This is what I have:
Image

I found this schematic but I'm not sure what to wire were..

I maked this schema of the Position PCB, Gun 1 and Power Supply. Can someone help me with what to wire were?

As you can see I don't have electronical knowedge. I think I only can understand this kind of answer:

J1 conector - Hole 1 - Power Supply 24v
J1 conector - Hole 2 - ...
J1 conector - Hole 3 - ...
J1 conector - Hole 4 - ...
J1 conector - Hole 5 - ...
J1 conector - Hole 6 - ...

J2 conector - Hole 1 - Gun 1 24v
J2 conector - Hole 2 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 3 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 4 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 5 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 6 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 7 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 8 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 9 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 10 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 11 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 12 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 13 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 14 - ...
J2 conector - Hole 15 - ...

J4 conector - Hole 1 - ...
J4 conector - Hole 2 - ...
J4 conector - Hole 3 - ...
J4 conector - Hole 4 - ...
J4 conector - Hole 5 - ...
J4 conector - Hole 6 - ...
J4 conector - Hole 7 - ...
J4 conector - Hole 8 - ...
J4 conector - Hole 9 - ...

Thanks you very much in advance, and sorry for my poor English

Honestly, you've already done most of the work yourself.

This is the part that's important:

position_pcb.jpg
J1 is for power input (jump these from the jamma edge and add 24V).

Connect the gun wires to J2.

As for J4, this one I had to look for on the internet. It looks like it needs to be connected to both the jamma edge and the 48 pin auxiliary connector next to it. Normally this would be routed through the filter board (which is why it isn't spelled out on the schematic), but since you don't have it, you need to do it yourself:

J4 Pin 3 -- J101 A6 (GOUT0)
J4 Pin 4 -- J101 B6 (GOUT1)
J4 Pin 6 -- J101 B7 (GOUT2)
J4 Pin 7 -- J101 A8 (GOUT3)
J4 Pin 8 -- JAMMA VIDEO SYNC
J4 Pin 9 -- JAMMA GROUND

Also, two other points you need to notice:

1) Point Blank outputs stereo sound. From the jamma edge you will only get the left channel. For the right channel you will have to tap the 48 pin aux connector:

J101 A1 -- RIGHT SPKR+
J101 B1 -- RIGHT SPKR-

2) The test switch needs to be an ON/OFF one. If you have a momentary push button, it will exit out of the test menu the moment you release the button.

Good luck!

Thanks nem for that very valuable information!

First I'm going to wire the 1P Gun. I also found this diagram of the J2 connector with more information:

And that is what I'm going to do:

As I don't have the cabinet, I'm going to discart wires for lamps.

I'll keep posting next steps and questions :)

While I’m waiting the amp and molex connectors ordered at RS Components, I jumped to other step preparing the 48 pin edge connector, following the information from nem:

J4 Pin 4 -- J101 B6 (GOUT1)
J4 Pin 6 -- J101 B7 (GOUT2)
J4 Pin 7 -- J101 A8 (GOUT3)
...

J101 A1 -- RIGHT SPKR+
J101 B1 -- RIGHT SPKR-

The connector I found has 50 instead of 48 pins, but it fits well with the 48 pins on the main board.

Why don't you have jamma connector? Remember you will have to input power and output video and the left channel audio from there as well.

This is going to be my configuration with the JAMMA harness:
Image

I made this change after read your post nem :) :
Image

This is now the new harness with 52 pin JAMMA adaptor, 48 pin secondary edge connector, J1 and J4 amp connector for Position PCB, and a +24v wires for the secondary power supply:

This picture from the other side (maybe useful for someone in the future)

I wired the J1 amp connector for the Position PCB as follow:

J1 - Hole 1 - Power Supply 24v, +24
J1 - Hole 2 - Power Supply 24v, GND
J1 - Hole 3 - JAMMA +5v
J1 - Hole 4 - JAMMA + 12v
J1 - Hole 5 - JAMMA GND
J1 - Hole 6 - JAMMA GND

I just connected all, following advices and diagramas, but I have a doubt looking this diagram:
Image

Do I have to connect +24v from power supply to hole #1 on the J4 J2 connector?

If this Possition PCB gets power from J1 connector, it seems extrange to me that J4 J2 connector was also reciving +24v directly from the power supply...

Don't put +24V anywhere in J4.

J4 has

1 1P_SHOOT
2 2P_SHOOT
3 GOUT0
4 GOUT1
5 GOUT2
6 GOUT3
7 GOUT4
8 C_SYNC
9 GND

There's no +24V.

Remember the schematic includes the filter board which you don't have. Don't read too much into the connections.

Sorry, I typed J4 instead J2..

Do you think that I don't have to put +24v there?

24v would be for the recoil solenoid if the gun has that.

Most likely one connector is meant for input, the other one for output (to gun).

Hi guys,

This is helping me - I have exactly the same issue - except I am using Recoil SF-X guns instead of the original Namco guns!

If I may, can I ask 2 questions?

1) Is the J4 connector on the Position PCB needed in any way for the guns to fully work?

2) the SF-X guns run on 12V (not 24V like the original Namcos). Can I just connect a single wire from the 12V outlet on the power supply, to the #1 pin on the J1 connector on the Position PCB? (so then the pins 1 & 2 on J2 would then be receiving the 12v from the J1 socket) Maybe I would have to also connect J1 pin 2 ("PGND") or pin 5 or pin 6 (both "GND") back to a ground connections somewhere? Leaving the other 4 sockets on J1 empty?

Sincerely,

CMH

I gave up on trying to figure it out via the PCB boards, it was too much for my simple brain - so I have ordered some relays that I hope to attach to the trigger and then power the recoils separately - lets see how it goes

Thanks Awbacon!

The solenoids turned up, I got very excited that I might be able to get the recoils working.

I connected up the 12V solenoid/power in the gun to the relay, and then connected the control terminals on the really to the trigger wire of the gun. My plan was, that when the trigger was pulled, a short 5V pulse would go into the relay and initiate a burst of 12V to the solenoids.

However, I was gutted to find out that it did not work :-(

First of all I thought it might be a bad relay, but I tried another one, and it still did not work. I know that the controller on the relay waits for current/voltage as it's signal to activate - but I decided to check the trigger wire for voltage. The weird this was, that even when the trigger was not pulled, there was still several volts in the wire - so from the relay's point of view, there is always a signal there, so it leaves the 12V circuit constantly "on".

Now I was expecting the trigger wire to be at 0V until the trigger was pulled, but surprisingly there was voltage there even when the trigger was not pulled so I am very confused.

It might be that I did something wrong, but for my basic brain I was not expecting there to be voltage without the trigger being pressed :-(

Back to the drawing board

Hi guncon. I’m in the process of wiring up a point blank cabinet and was wondering if you could tell me where you sourced the molex connectors from in the position pcb? Thanks
