Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
Hey everyone!
I just received a Windy 2 as part of a group buy and so far haven't had luck getting video output on the monitor.
I've checked and confirmed I'm getting proper voltage output from the PSU and my Naomi boots normally. No matter which VGA cable I use (there are three - 2 connected to back panel / splitter board, 1 connected straight to chassis board), I get no video output on the monitor and I hear a constant beeping sound which may be coming from the monitor chassis.
A couple other participants in the group buy are experiencing the same behavior. It would be strange for three or more to have the exact same issue, but I suppose it's possible. It seems more likely we are missing something simple though.
One thing I noticed is a stray cable hanging down in my cabinet which looks like it may belong to either the monitor chassis or neck board?
Here's a picture:
Is anyone familiar with the type of monitor that comes standard in a Windy 2 and whether this cable should be plugged in somewhere?
Any manuals for the monitor or other insight is appreciated.

Have you followed the cable to see what’s on the end of it? It could be anything but possibly power to the monitor or Degaussing coil.

That looks like the connector for the vertical deflection yoke on Nanao monitors.

I believe that's the degauss and goes here:

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
The cover is missing from your PSU....
Loose cable is degauss - which may mean the chassis/tube has been swapped in the cab (or the degauss circuit is broken on the chassis).
The extra VGA, Phono & USB leads are for Vs configuration and all of them can be bypassed.
try to contact @geldra as he has my original Windy II and I had tidied up all the wiring inside and it had the correct tube/chassis inside so he should be able to provide pics and part numbers.

Thanks guys, I'll get the degauss cable connected then - appreciate the pic of where it should go.
One of the other guys with this issue already confirmed all of his cables are connected and he is still getting the same beeping behavior from the chassis and no video.
Here's a video he posted:
Any additional troubleshooting ideas?

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
I see that it's mentioned about the beeping, but is there a clicking sound too? And is there any neck glow and/or static on the screen?
I had a clicking chassis a while back, with no screen static of neck glow, and i'm sorry to say it was thought that the flyback was faulty. A replacement chassis was my resolution.

Yeah thats my video. I am not getting clicking, just the beeps. No neck glow or static makes me think its in some sort of HV shutdown or protection mode. Going to pull it and send it off for repair, I don't think a toshiba chassis should be my first chassis repair job.

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
Before you do that - check if you have a dag-earth wire and if you do it's connected.
The Tosh chassis will go into shutdown if fed an incorrect sync signal so try a standard PCB, then a 640*480@60Hz VGA signal - A Naomi-1 is handy for those or if you have an XRGB2, 2+ or 3 try the output from them.

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
That's very interesting re: the dag-earth wire and sync signal.
Here's a video of the sounds my Windy 2 is making. It does the constant beeping and a "turning over" sound that I wouldn't exactly describe as "clicking".
I was told this is flyback squeal and a bad HOT. I pulled the maintenance hatch and I'm getting no neck glow.
In my case I'm using a Naomi 1 set to 31khz for testing. The same exact configuration works fine on the NNC.
I guess I'll try another 31khz source before I pull the chassis to send it in for repair. Any other ideas to try let me know.

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
I tried using 15k and 31k, still the beeps. I already sent it out to repair, but that earth wire, I think I saw something cut at the bottom. I'll definitely check that while the chassis is out- but having the chassis serviced is never a bad idea, especially with all the mold and mildew in this cabinet. Strangely the underside of the chassis wasn't all corroded.penrhos wrote: ↑January 7th, 2019, 11:45 pm Before you do that - check if you have a dag-earth wire and if you do it's connected.

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
That's exactly the same noise that my Windy 2 monitor made. Unfortunately grant couldn't get to the bottom of what the issue was (he replaced a specific component on the chassis but it kept getting fried, I cant remember what the part was though) and I ended up having to replace the whole lot (chassis and tube).
Astro City is only a letter away from atrocity. Makes you think doesn’t it?

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
Found the cabinets FG had been cut, so I reconnected it.
I still can find little to no information about this chassis. The repair shop won’t get it until Monday, so fingers crossed. If all else fails I may have to fit this sanwa in there.

The tube in my Windy 2 is an A68KZN696X, so according to the wiki it matches the tube for a Nanao MS2930.
Looks like if we're unable to fix these Tosh chassis we may be able to use a standard Blast City chassis with the tube!

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
The same tube doesn’t necessarily mean the same yoke. Nanao MS8 and MS9 can both come on the same Toshiba tube, but the yokes are not compatible and can damage the chassis or yoke.

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
You'd have to get some yoke readings. I've seen some ms8 yokes with ms9s via a yoke adapter- so its not out of the realm of possibility. But definitely get readings first.
I am wondering if there is someone who has a windy 1 that can get some yoke readings for us- wonder if those windy 1 chassis would be compatible. No 31k, but at least the monitor working.

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video
Just pulled the pb7534 and took measurements of the deflection yoke with an lcr meter.
Red/blue:
L: 0.23 mH
R: 2.0(?) Ohms
Green/Yellow:
L: 11.95 mH
R: 5.8(?) Ohms
The resistance values may be inaccurate, my meter was jumping around all over the place and I took them the best I could.
The inductance values should be pretty close to accurate.
Moving forward, I removed the PB7534 chassis and tried to install a Nanao MS2933 chassis in its place.
While the green/yellow yoke wires fit on the MS2933, the red/blue connector doesn't.
Does anyone know the right parts to make an adapter?
Images of the red/blue yoke connector from the A68KZN696X/PB7534 yoke:
I guess one other option if I can't build or buy an adapter is to harvest the header from the PB7534 and transplant it on the MS2933, but I'd prefer not to do that if possible. I'll probably be sending the PB7534 out for repair and I'd have to find another one to replace it.
