Wonder Boy color PROMS: can mame roms be used to burn new ones?

Post by keropi »

Hiya!

Wonder Boy for Sega System2 uses 3x N82S129AN proms as part of a 12bit DAC to generate the image.
Is it possible to use the MAME ROM data to burn into 3 new N82S129AN proms? Or a way to convert these mame dumps to something usable for real ICs ?

Thanks in advance for any info/help! :awe:

I have also found this link but it is of no use to me , I don't have the original Wonder Boy proms to read  so I am looking to make my own
I used GadgetFreak's GAL replacements but they get insanely hot so I am not comfortable with them.

The link suggested using either a 74LS138 or a PAL as a replacement.

If you've already got a GAL that works it may be that it just runs hot or its being fed with too much voltage.

It is not a voltage issue for sure but it *could be* an issue that the unused pins are not defined as such and the GALs internal open collector causes the heat built up (I already tried grounding unused pins but did not help as they also need to be defined as such in the equation file).
I asked if GadgetFreak can share the EQN file but failing that I want to explore the other alternative: using the intended IC for the job.
