Got asked what difference using a NES dpad in a DMG made.
nesgb.jpg
The NES dpad is far less sloppy. It's a little taller too, and less concave. It's a vast improvement! I only tried it for aesthetics, but it's noticeably better overall.

As for the buttons, not much difference however I think I prefer them. They're shorter and concave, which makes them feel more responsive.

Got myself a GB Power cart. Official Nintendo flash cart. No idea how to manipulate the contents. It has Wario Land on it from factory.

Swapped the white backlight in my DMG Pocket for a green one. Much better, feels correct now.

Took my MGB, Mole Mania and Kirby's Dream Land for the train journey to Croydon on Saturday. Outbound - Mole Mania: finished off Level 5 and made a start on Level 6. Kirby: never played it before, cleared normal mode on the return journey. Infinite continues and simple platforming, just some pattern learning and battling with the controls on the bosses. Not sure how long it took me, but there's no save so it has to be done in one hit. Completing it gives you the code to access EXTRA MODE - looks to be just a harder loop.

Learned that there's a rare Japan release of Tetris with different music. Dug through my bag of doubles, pulled out six normal copies, then the final cart in the bottom of the bag - a rare Tetris! Dunno if it's worth anything though.

Is that the First Print version, does it have a slightly different label?

That's the one. The different music sucks, game would've been a failure.

Very interesting that this exists - but I'm glad the iconic music made it into the final version.
You finished Mole Mania? I just love those puzzles - especially some of those that require interesting timing.

Working through it slowly. Level4 has some very tough stuff, it was a bit offputting. 5 was where I started to be able to properly plan.

It's a fantastic game. I'm finding the music is starting to grate a bit though.

I think there's three different versions of JP Tetris.

DMG-TRA (old)
DMG-TRA (new)
DMG-TRA-1

I think they might all have different music, but it's been super long since I last tried all three.

Green backlight matches one of the kiosk variants.
