Lightguns and accuracy

Post by CTN »

This week i got my hands on a Konami Hyper Blaster lightgun for the Playstation.
Never had a lightgun before so my knowledge is basically zero. So please keep that in mind. Also the only compatible game I have is Rebel Assault II.

The questions:
After maxing the contrast the lightgun is still very imprecise after calibration (I can aim straight in the middle, so i guess it calibrates) in the game.

Is it the terrible collision detection of Rebel Assault II or was the Hyper Blaster never much to begin with?

Whats the ideal distance from the TV when using a gun? Am I just too far away?

Console light guns don’t age well in my experience. Maybe it’s just gone on the wonk over time?

Are you using a curved screen CRT?

Though not everybody experiences it... there’s enough people (Googled) having problems with light guns and flat screen crt’s. The main complaint being... “accuracy is off”. That’s gotta be your answer.

Oh dear, then there is nothing I can do about. I try it on my tiny backup telly then.
