NAOMI: to chop or not?
Has anyone chopped their NAOMI? Did you regret doing so at all, or was it the right decision? I'm a little unsure as I don't want to spoil an original cab.

Chop her right away!
I have 3 of those, none to be played upright. I also had one painted in black, which I deeply regretted in the long run and had to repaint. Whitey it is!

Ha, nice! Do the New Net City sit down legs fit a NAOMI (I think the part number is NOA-1101Y + NOA-1102Y?

Re: NAOMI: to chop or not?
No ones ever regretted chopping a Naomi Do it, legs are interchangeable ,but why bother when you can cut what you have... If it goes terribly wrong then buy them!!!!!
<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"

Re: NAOMI: to chop or not?
If it weren't for the plastics yellowing and the screw caps going brittle I'd have a Naomi upright at home rather than my Egret 3...

Re: NAOMI: to chop or not?
My first Naomi is around 5 years old (since restoration) and is still crispy white. The screw caps (that are missing in that picture) i removed for painting because i forgot them when i restored the cab.
I believe that if you proper treat them before painting, they will last just like any other cab.

Yeah, I have no interest in painting them - it's the original plastics that yellow.

Re: NAOMI: to chop or not?
the cheapest **** you can do :
riverservice jvs->jamma adapter and gbs 82xx video converter.
i recommend a jamma loom and a trisync monitor

Re: NAOMI: to chop or not?
Both Naomis have a dedicated Jamma loom and the standard JVS loom with a tri-sync monitor. I think this way it's easier and cheaper for sure.

Re: NAOMI: to chop or not?
I much prefer the angle of the screen, and speaker location on the Naomi/NC/NNC over cabs like the Astro/NAC. I used to have a NetCity and a New Astro City, but now have 3x New astro City

I also find the angle (specially in Tate) just perfect.

Re: NAOMI: to chop or not?
Ah, OK. That's the dream set-up. Did you swap those monitors in yourself, or were these Japanese cabs?

Re: NAOMI: to chop or not?
Mine are UK also.
Both had the standard tubes with a Rodotron 666 chassis. I really love the general picture of those chassis with thick scanlines in 15khz mode, and the picture is very decent in 31khz. You should bare in mind that these chassis were (when you could easily find them new) very cheap, so for me, the price/quality ratio is great.
At the moment, i've swaped one of the tubes for a Toshiba A68KJU96X and MS9 chassis, it's the Naomi on the right. The bezel is not a perfect fit since this tube is rounder, but with a little "adaptation on the mounting" it's not that bad as you can tell by the pictures.

Re: NAOMI: to chop or not?
Very nice. These cabs are super versatile and easy to take apart/chop/paint etc. Also accepts a wide range of monitors.
I'll need to paint my upper at least, i have the RAL 9010 ready but no time yet.. just moved house
I did the upper on the other chopped one beside it, you can really tell the difference in the picture.
