cps2 gfx sprite issue

Post by kobayuz777 »

Please look at this. :awe:

There is a problem with the display of a specific sprite.
GFX ROM etc are normal.
PAL is normal.
Even if you replace the EPROM of the board with another game,
Symptoms are the same.

Also, the pins connecting the A boards are not bent.

Since there is a B board of Junk, I think there are parts that can be replaced somewhat.
Do you know where on the board is broken? :lolno:

There is two custom chips which deal with graphics generation mutiplexing on the B-Board. One is CGA (DL-1927/Character Generator Address) the other is CGD (DL-2027/Character Generator Data)

In your case it looks like CGD (DL-2027) chip may be faulty.

Judging by your pictures, only OBJ (sprites) layers are malfunctioning. Scroll layers (background) are looking fine.

Is it that the address is not wrong, but the data of that address has not been drawn? ;)

I will check if the pin is short-circuited.
If you replace it, I want to be careful not to damage the pins of the chip.
Is it smart to remove with a hot gun? ;)

I am in the middle of repairing. ;)

I tried to replace DL2027, but the missing cross sprites will not be improved.
I found a problem reporting similar to this bulletin board. :wtf:

Does the IC near CN9 affect objects?
So exchange this.
In addition, I also exchanged ls245 once.

It seems that the sprite of the previous cross has disappeared.
However, there are strange parts to display. :wtf:

DL 2027 may not be a problem.
So, I returned the original DL 2027 to its original location. :problem:

I think that the cause of the problem is a little more. ... :awe:
I will investigate contact failure from now.

What do you think is the cause of this display?
Also, another part became strange display.

I will look at DL2027 well.
It seemed that around 91 to 120 pins were floating.
It seems I did not properly wear solder. :problem:

I reflowed the solder and turned on the power again. :awe:

I fixed it!
I switched both ls 245 and SRAM near CN 9, so it seems either one was the cause.
It took a year since I bought the board for this problem.
It was really nice to repair!

By the way,
SRAM near CN 9 does not seem to be custom.
This time I peeled from the junk board and transplanted.
If in a shop somewhere,
I may as well buy it for repair. :D

SRAM chips near CN9 are "OBJ RAM". If they're bad the game will stop boot and will throw "OBJ RAM ERROR" message before going to version number screen.

LS245 are buffer for data output from CGD, that could be what you replaced which fixed the board.

Sorry for thread jacking , but is this the same issue you had? I pressed down on all customs and nothing changes. Also the PAL chips are hot

Noise is first heard in the sound.
Is this a sound other than games? :awe:

I think that there are many causes of contact failure of graphic ROM that vertical lines enter the screen.
First of all,
How about you try removing the GFXROM from the B board using tools?
After that, there is a possibility that it can be repaired even if it is inserted again
At that time, it would be better to use such instruments.

(If you forcibly pull out with a screwdriver, you may break the pin)
In this screen, if you re-insert No. 16 gfx ROM, it was fixed.

Also, I am concerned that PAL is hot.
Vampire should have been D-PAL
Do you have a normal cps2 board D-PAL? It may be good to try transplanting.

By the way,
Do you have reprogrammable tools if cps 2 commits suicide? :awe:

Vertical stripes are very likely to be data pins not connected on GFX ROMs.

Yet another post hijacker here, sorry in advance.
Own some CPS2 A+B boards with issues, an X-Men COTA with RAM ERROR (on red screen), other Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha (LA) with RAM NG ERROR, both of them with a "good looking PCB", in the other hand bought an "acid splitted" Marvel Vs Capcom which I managed to get it working phoenixing it, fixed a trace which gave some background issues but got stuck with a trace I cant figure where to search, any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried palpating the chips 2027 and 1927? :awe:
If you use a pin to touch where there is a break, a change may appear on the screen.

As a case other than that,
It is a disconnection of 74ls 245 near the battery.
There are many cases where nearby patterns are damaged when the battery explodes.

I also had a board with a battery exploded.
Because there was a pin whose screen changes when touching with a pin
I treated the jumper and fixed it.
