New Astro City Speaker Replacement
Hi all!
I’m looking at replacing the speakers in my NAC while I’ve got it in bits and becauseone has a massive hole in the cone!
I appreciate it’ll be difficult to get ones that fit perfectly, but was wondering if these would do the job?
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products ... lsrc=aw.ds
I know the originals are 8cm and 4ohm, but no idea what wattage they are or what the amp in the NAC pushes out. 30w for these speakers seems high. Thanks in advance.

Re: New Astro City Speaker Replacement
Done a bit more digging and the originals are 10w 4ohm unshielded, so think I’ll go with these ones.

Let us know how it goes .. Sheided would be better as there would be no risk of the magnets effecting the screen.

I've bought quite a few sets, but none could match the stock ones until now. Let us know how the RS ones work out pls.

Re: New Astro City Speaker Replacement
I still haven’t got round to ordering these, life has got in the way. Had a look at the originals today and was wondering how to get round mounting these in the casing as the originals have the stepped holes on the corners.Sp33dFr34k wrote: ↑August 18th, 2018, 9:37 pm I've bought quite a few sets, but none could match the stock ones until now. Can I ask what you did?

I just made them to fit. Haven't had dropin replacements yet, however I've received the ones linked to by radiantsilvergun above, have yet to try them.

Re: New Astro City Speaker Replacement
So, I've bought the LG ones. They are really really close to the original ones. Had to use 2 small rings underneath the holes but otherwise they are actually drop-in.
They do sound a lot more muffled comparing to the original ones, that said, the OG speakers are very rich on the mid and especially high. They also crackle a bit every now and then.
The LG ones are more sophisticated so to say and sound nice, although a bit more flat.
Also, the LG ones are shielded and seem less prone to static, although I can still hear it (maybe it's the NVS4000 going out here, also a possibility).

Thanks for those radiant gun. Sp33dFr34k, would you recommend them then? Just you say they’re really, really close to the originals, but then that they’re a lot more muffled. Cheers.

Re: New Astro City Speaker Replacement
I meant physically they are very close. Sound wise they are a lot different, as stated the mid/high is way more present in the original ones, these are more balanced. You could say they sound a bit more muffled.
Have been testing them for a few days now (few minutes now and then), and I will leave them in, I like them

Re: New Astro City Speaker Replacement
Getting better sound of my ac became an obsession for me a couple of years ago
I've tried a bunch of cheapy replacements speakers but was never happy.
Still on my list to try are some Tang Band W3-593SF they're a bit pricey though the audiophile community seems to like them.
There are a bunch of speakers on aliexpress I would like to try, some nice looking ones from Aiyma and I think I'm going to add those LG's to the list

This is also the fifth kit I've tried, I'm completely done with the hunt and am happy with the LG ones. Might add something to my NVS4000 later to try and set bass and treble. Not a prio right now though.

Good to know you’re happy enough with the LGs to stop hunting. Ordered mine, so hopefully won’t take too long.Sp33dFr34k wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2018, 12:52 pm This is also the fifth kit I've tried, I'm completely done with the hunt and am happy with the LG ones. Re: New Astro City Speaker Replacement
Finally got round to fitting the LG speakers this week and reassembling my NAC today. Really pleased with them and they sound great in the little bit of testing I’ve done. Thanks to radiant gun and sp33dfr34k for the recommendation.
