Re: Sonic Mania, new 2D sidescrolling Sonic game (Switch/PS4/XB1/PC)
No.
I like that the game boxes are standardised and decently robust. By wrapping it up in extra cardboard they completely mess up the standard if I was to keep it all together, and to avoid damaging it for the future I've got to split it away from the normal boxes and keep it safely elsewhere - doubling up the storage space.
It is completely stupid. I get that it's probably cheaper to have a single run of everything than have a "standard" and "collector" edition. I just hate binning stuff like this that clearly should have value, but I see no value in.

So, physical releases only but don't you dare throw in a free sleeve and booklet?

I like physical, but much prefer cheap digital. Sonic was about £8 at release iirc, that’s much better than £20 with a booklet and sleeve month later

I was pleased to see there was a manual inside. Before I opened said manual and saw the contents. Waste of good paper.
I can't stand digital from a refund/resale point of view, yet I get rid of the oversized collectible crap that maybe adds resale value to a physical release. Go figure.markedkiller78 wrote:I like physical, but much prefer cheap digital. Sonic was about £8 at release iirc, that’s much better than £20 with a booklet and sleeve month later
Stickers, keyrings, books, mini CDs, 3D glasses - anything that can be safely stored INSIDE the game box are great extras. It's when the extras make the product balloon beyond the normal proportions of the range I hate. A double thick case would be okay though.

I love the PS vita and switch boxes. They are perfect. As long as they have internal artwork I’m happy. I absolutely hate it when blank it’s lazy and cheap.
Tbh I prefer it when they have no instructions and flyers, as I can’t bin **** like that.
JP GameCube was great, but the sleeves are a pain to keep mint and the instructions get all dog eared.

Point taken. The sort of people who want a physical release generally lap up these extras though. I used to be a sucker for a limited edition but that **** just ends up in a cupboard until I sell it (if I remember it's there that is). Quite proud I resisted the Psyvaraiar Delta with the EP!cools wrote:"free"SuperPang wrote:So, physical releases only but don't you dare throw in a free sleeve and booklet?
Selling or binning the extras is madness though.

Been playing Encore mode since I cleared Thimbleweed Park. Good fun. Prefer Mania mode overall but playing as Mighty is great, and Ray has some fantastic animation. The Encore UFO chases are pretty rough going.
What a game.
What a game.

House to myself, so I look forward to playing a bit of Encore mode tonight.
I wanted to play it the other day, but by the time the stupid Xbone updates had downloaded and installed, the little un had woken up

It’s a good excuse to play through it again but I’ve only ever liked playing as Sonic. Never even bothered with Knuckles.

Re: Sonic Mania, new 2D sidescrolling Sonic game (Switch/PS4/XB1/PC)
Lava Reef Zone 1 in Encore mode can do one.
It's a difficult enough zone as it is, Encore mode doing away with lives+checkpoints makes it a 10minute+ effort assuming you didn't already Game Over and need to re-gather your characters. Worst level in Encore mode by far. Zone 2 is nowhere near as tedious, although the flamethrower timing is a bit quick for my liking. At least you get Metallic Madness - one of the best zones in the game - immediately following.
I haven't even beaten the first Special Stage yet either, despite trying it at least 30 times.
