EOJ wrote: It's a pretty accurate port for three characters (Windia, Casper and Supe). But for the fourth character (Lei) it's rather poor as about half of the slowdown was removed when using this character, making it impossible to score as well. The arcade WR with Lei is 2 billion, but on the X360 port the highest score is about half that, last time I checked.
I didn't know that. Lei is the character I use so I assumed it was like that for all of them. It runs way too fast. How bizarre!

I figured as much. We were lucky to see two more releases after that to be honest. At the time I thought it would be the end of them.
Whenever I went to play it at an arcade in 2009 there was always at least one person playing. Seemed popular with Cave fans, but unfortunately the hardware was poorly designed and unreliable and when I came back to Japan in 2011 I couldn't find the game anywhere (maybe all the machines broke). With the X360 port (which sold quite well), it must have been profitable for them in the end. It is a fine game that deserves a better port (perhaps on Steam).
Not even with home versions, did it break even.
1 was their best selling and 2 was their worst selling.

Thanks for the info Shou. Deathsmiles 1 was their best selling arcade title ever or just CV1000 release?

I wonder if it's because of the relatively easy difficulty which drew more players.

The DSII X360 port sold 17,600 copies in its first week (according to Famitsu)***. I can't find the exact number but iirc it sold over 30,000 lifetime in Japan (it was also available to North American buyers on the GoD download service). That's much higher than other ports including the MMP/PS pack and Ibara PS2. And how they did not break even on DSII with such good X360 sales is beyond me.They must have blown a ton of money on development and that dumb PC arcade hardware.

***In contrast, the Mushihimesama X360 port sold a paltry 5,135 copies its first week, though it was also ported to the PS2 earlier and that sold better (I don't know the numbers for that one). And let's not forget the Steam port.

I've heard Instant Brain (X360 visual novel) was the game they lost the most money on.

I don't know the CV1000 sales but on X360 the port sold 200,000 copies worldwide. By far, their best selling port.

Even if it sold that many copies, we are not taking into account the development and Hardware costs. I remember an interview with CAVE staff saying that DS II was challenging to make.

The game was released incomplete to arcades which was a huge handicap as by the time they patched it up, arcades didn’t care about it anymore.

Developing their own IO board and producing a run along with hiring an all new team for the project was costly.

Thanks. That look really nice. Are the bullets moving a bit faster on the arcade version than on the tablet version? I just played it on my tablet and in the first 2 stages the bullets seem really slow motion.

Don't worry about it. The box will be worth $2000 eventually.

The standard version might still tba. The Exa team haven't even tweeted about this yet. Nice spot jimmerd.

the more i think about this pre-order , the more i wonder.

call me nancy, but offering a special edition of a hardware that is not yet shown with collectors items that will be named at a later date for pre-order at 2000$ is either a leaked pre-order page or some very silly marketing choice.
