Anyone with an Astro City2

Post by zumbito »

I have been offered one of these cabs and I am kind of dubious about it. The speakers seem huge, like modification of a NAC. Besides the aesthetics is there any real difference between these cabs?

The back of an AC2 is different than those on the AC and New AC, it looks like the back of an Aerocity, supposedly that space was meant to house the bigger Sega Model 2 and Model 3 boards, I don't like how it looks with those oversized speakers :shifty: (but I don't like the looks/build quality of any of the Astros either so...)

Hmm... not sold on the shape personally. Not as classic at the original design, that's for sure.
I don't know for sure, but if the only change is the larger speakers, then while I'd not turn down the cab if it was a great offer... I wouldn't actively be hunting down a #2 for my candy lineup either. Knowing Sega the speaker part is probably completely interchangeable with NAC bits :)

Personally I love the AC + NAC, but really don't like the speaker panel on the AC2

Those speakers beat out its predecessors second to none, plus the rarez factor.

The Astro 1 is the best looking, but I'd take some extra curves for better performance any day.

Is this one successor to NAC or the other way around? Any pics of that "weird" back?

Pal, this is a very rare cab. You seem to don't know what you are about to acquire. You can find tons of Astro, NAC, Aero, NNC... But you can't buy this one everyday. Some guys still look for it since ages. Really a cab you can be proud to have at home.

And please... Do NOT paint it in orange ! :lolno:

Going by the rarirty factor, then the Tecmo AC2 (yes, it does exist) is the rarest Astro cab ;) .

No, it needs to be painted pink :awe:

Yes... Astro City, then New Astro City, then Astro City 2.

So, according to this: https://hard--candy.com/candy/Astro_City_2 Sega updated the power supply (as the NAC sun ones are often weak) and yes, they saw fit to put a set of studio mini-monitor speakers up top... check this out:

Other than that the differences appear to be a new rear compartment for large game boards. Doesn't look that obviously different from the photo above.

It was released for Virtua Fighter, hence the junk in the trunk. The speakers are far superior to the NAC. Great PSU and amp too.

I never saw VF1 in one of these in the wild, they were always in horrific wooden boxes over here

Mine came off the boat with VF installed back in 2005. Still got the marquee.

Why choose, get them both! (no, not really...just get a NAC since they are easier to come by)

I'm not a fan of the "tumor" in the back but at least most of the parts are the same!
