Last night I had the odd coincidence of having R-Type II and Pulstar on MVS in the same cab, and played them both back to back.
Wtf? They are practically the same game design!
I knew they were 'similar' but it hadn't dawned on me just quite how similar / exactly-the-ruddy-same they actually are!

So, who copied who? I'd guess Pulstar is the later one, and it nicks R-Type (1)'s crabs from level 2 as well.

Man, In the Hunt is freaking hard for me on the last stretch. I don't think I'll be ever 1ccing that anytime soon.

I'd love to score a faulty PCB of that caliber, by the way.

If I understand correctly, 'In The Hunt' was created largely by the same team as the later R-Types, and they went on to make the Metal Slug series afterwards.
As for my PCB, it unfortunately turned out to be a conversion, not the original board.. so not quite as valuable as it could have been, but I'm still chuffed with it!

I don't know if they worked on the later R-Types but they definitely did Gunforce 2 shortly after. That's the original precursor to the Metal Slug series.
That I would love to get my hands on one day as I'm a Metal Slug fiend.
Ah man, well I don't know where we draw the line on what's stock and original and what is a conversion anyway these days.
I mean do we consider those desuicided boards less valuable because it's no longer stock?
