Hi Guys
I've recently purchased a Crazy Taxi Cartridge, but it looks pretty weird compared to all my other Naomi games. It has some sort of an extra pcb stuck on the main game board. Also some chips are sanded.
I don't have a driver cab at he moment but it looks good on my standard universal cab. The only odd thing i've noticed is, when i press the 2p start button a "debug" menu comes up which i can control with the 2p joystick. Can't find anything about that in the original manual.
Here are some pics i took from the game. http://imgur.com/a/0kROD
What do you guys think? Bootleg or something else?
Thanks

Bootleg.
That's normal. The original cart behaves the same way. The menu is for debugging, so it's not mentioned in the user manual.Karnickel wrote:The only odd thing i've noticed is, when i press the 2p start button a "debug" menu comes up which i can control with the 2p joystick. Thanks for the fast answer. Didn't know there are other bootlegs besides the well known Ikaruga. Still an interesting piece in my collection.

Sanded chips (usually these are ALTERA or XILINX FPGAs or CPLDs) and boards without the original board manufacturer logo are dead giveaway of a bootleg board.Karnickel wrote:Thanks for the fast answer. It's not uncommon that original boards have flash chips on them but mostly the flashes hold program code, not data. Data that is never supposed to change (graphics and sound) is cheaper to store on maskrom ICs. So in the case of NAOMI carts you have a lot of SMD ROMS with the "SEGA" logo in them and a EPROM or flash which contains the "meat" of the game program, which can be updated in case of a bug is found within the game. That's the main practical reason for having FLASH or EPROM on original game carts.
The MX chips on your cart (Macronix) are of flash/eeprom variety.

Hi every one,
I recently bought this Street Fighter EX2 Plus. I suppose this is a Bootleg but I want to have your opinion :

Maskrom printed like orignal, UVprom's stickers look weird

Qsound and CPSB2 are not Capcom printed

Never seen this romboard number before
X2PA-04 CRC : 6179F937 (Unknow in romcenter)
X2P-01M CRC : 5EA82500 (Unknow too)
X2PA-02 and X2PA-03 are same CRC as the original. I cant read the others with my programmer because it's 64Mb rom.
ROM Check :

Nevertheless the game run perfectly, no glitch, no différence with the original. Secrets caracters are unlocked.

My JPN region board looks like this:
The mask roms you have on your board are genuine, so at least that part is legit. Honestly, it doesn't look that different. Slightly poorer quality stickers and a different rom board number. A later revision? A conversion? (Capcom aren't exactly unknown for doing their own factory conversions)

Thanks for your reply,
I noticed PAL MEMDEC and BANK03 don't have the right label, And connector soldered to the motherboard are poor quality.
This romboard is a real oddity for me.

About Rastan Saga pcb original or bootleg...
Hello, i´m looking for an original Rastan Saga pcb jamma, but i dont know whichs boards are the original or bootleg, i mean all pictures related to Rasta Saga pcb (the Japanese version with the game intro, and logo displayed on screen like Rastan Saga) that i found seems be bootlegs:

Only i found the Rastan pcb original, but seems those boards are not Rastan Saga (Japanese) version, i mean no intro once you begin a game, and no Rasta Saga logo

Then, the Rastan Saga boards are not originals, only are bootlegs? If anyone have Rastan Saga (Japanese) version original please post a picture.

Re: About Rastan Saga pcb original or bootleg...
The japanese version is called "Rastan Saga".
The international version is called "Rastan".
Looking at the M.A.M.E. driver the board can be romswapped to a different region by changing some of the maincpu roms.
A search for the game's title in Japanese yields a few results. But finding a Japanese title in EU/World region is difficult.

It's the reason Japanese versions are more expensive in the EU: Purists prefer the one they played (You probably played a Rastan Saga bootleg in the arcade..)

Re: WONDERBOY ORIGINAL
Yep there are originals with daughterboards I think. I saw one with nasty repairs on it.
There is an original board that has two sets of dip switches at the top left corner, not directly in line with the edge connector as the one above.
There are also bootlegs with daughterboards too, helpfully. So quite a few varients of both the original and bootlegs for Wonderboy

Re: WONDERBOY ORIGINAL
I had one that I always thought was original until I came to sell it.
An ebay user messaged me to say it was a conversion based on it having a small resoldered spot and hand written labels. He said if I tested it there would be a bug making it impossible to pass the 4th boss. I tried this out but it played fine to world 5.
Beyond knowing it's an original Sega board, is it possible to know for sure if it's a conversion, or an unofficial one?
So in answer to your question, I don't know.
