Nanao MS-2930-S contrast improvement tips?

Post by K405 »

I have a Nanao MS-2930-S in my Sega Blast City which has a darkened picture while the contrast pot is set to maximum level. Is there anything I can do to restore the contrast levels? Replace certain capacitors perhaps?

change 10uf 250v cap on neck card

you have colour cut offs and a sub contrast on the main chassis
there is a screen volts pot on the flyback

If you have the dip switches on the remote board set to wrong (vga / dsub) and are using 15khz jamma, this will also happen..

Sw3 on the board: (right hand side)

Actually I realize now I wrote brightness pot but I meant contrast pot! Sorry for being so daft :awe:
Does the 10uf cap on the neck board still apply in this case?

do you mean SUB contrast or contrast, have you located the cut off pots and yes the 10uf 250v cap is one of the most common nanao failures on virtually all their range of chassis

The contrast pot on the front is set to maximum and I have located the sub.contrast pot which I also set to maximum level which increased contrast slightly. Both are now set to the maximum level which gives an ok picture but it could do with a little bit more contrast.

The RGB cut-off's are below the sub cont but they don't do any good for contrast.

Haven't located the 10uF capacitor yet. You can't see it from here can you?

Cleaning the board a bit with a very soft brush will help you locate the capacitor.
My 15kHz cabinet Peplos will never power up, with any item, and I am quite proud of that.

Hi@all!

Same problem here!

Now I changed the Cap at the neckboard and the screen is a lil bit darker than before with the original cap.
Is there any trick to get more contrast?

Color cut offs and screen volts make the screen only wihite richt?
Or should I open the color cut offs and reduce the screen volts`?

Or can the new cap be broken too? :awe:

I'd definitely calibrate the monitor before you go any further.

THX Bro I changed the settings and it´s fine now!

Just put brightness half open, color cut offs and then find the right voltage..

But it´s not the same overpowered **** to have the DSUB -75OHMs (with lowered contrast) - thats a color boost dafuq <3

All the pots are on one side of the chassis. There's two pots for pincushion adjustment, S.P.C and S.P.C 15.

In the above pic, S.P.C 15 is the third pot from the right. There's also S.P.C to the right of the circled pot. Both have an effect for all resolutions, S.P.C 15 more pronounced for standard resolution.

Amazing info thankyou mate, do I have to take the monitor out to adjust or is it possible to leave it in whilst adjusting. What do you use to adjust, thanks again buddy. One last question, is there any way to up the colour intensity, I've tried contrast and brightness, my pictures colour is really good but I'd like to be able to adjust it a bit. Thanks for your time once again

I would take it out, but it can be done with the monitor inside the cab. It's just not very fun.

What do you use to adjust, thanks again buddy.

Well, a trimmer tool with a plastic end is what's preferred, however, any small screwdriver will do.

You need to adjust color gains on the remote. Unfortunately, due to some idiotic reason they're behind the mounting plate on the Blast :problem: You need to remove the monitor to remove the remote.
