I finally completed Shovel Knight. It's a perfect 10 from me. The level design is superb. I don't remember many NES games being this good.

My PC Engine is currently hooked up to the PVM and I've suddenly 're-discovered' a couple of classic arcade games, namely Atomic Robo Kid and Mr Heli.

Mr Heli in fact was one of my first PC Engine games and I rather naively turned my nose up at it when I was getting into the PCE.

I was too busy with the 'Soldier series or other cute-em-ups and thought that the graphics on Mr Heli were a bit bland.

Taking a good look at it today and its one of the most accessible, addictive roaming shooters that's out there. On a great display the graphics aren't bland and basic, but rather vibrant, colourful and fitting of the whimsical cartoon style. Music is very catchy.

Rather than blasting to the right, or up, like your regular shooter, you goal is to get to the end of rather a maze environment, blasting enemies to stay alive and blasting rocks to release crystals, which gets converted into hard cash. Also rocks reveal power up boxes that you fly into, and if you have enough money you get a weapons upgrade, or energy, because you have a life bar rather than a 1 hit = you die set up.

Sometimes the screen scrolls, other times not, whilst the first level is quite simple, it starts to hot up progressively and you'll soon find yourself rapidly firing around you while you try to drop bombs on rocks below you - basically you can fire up wards or in the direction you fly and you can poop out little bomb balls. Now sometimes it can be a bit fiddly to drop theses because you Heli has to be on the ground to poop them out.

Anyway, the PC Engine's ports of both these games is as-always top notch, although its kind of making me want to track down the pcbs, which probably don't come up that often.

I remember C&VG praising both those games and thinking 'PC What?!'.

I've since had a quick look with emulation, never had a proper play but I still want to sometime before I die.

At least a statue would be something physical he could sell on and not a money pit, He told be he spent over £400 on gems :palm: , I guess its an office environment type thing (insert brain washing here) as his boss\colleagues play it also.
