New Cave Interview

Post by Devil Soundwave »

"I feel it's too difficult to make enough sales from a new console or
arcade shooter to justify the cost of development. Most of the
shooting game makers, Cave included, who were looking at those
platforms
as their business base would naturally come to the
conclusion that shooting was not viable anymore."

Dai Ogura - Mushihimesama Producer, Cave

Guess that kills any hope of new Cave pcbs then. :(

Maybe if a lot of games will be sold on Steam they change their mind.

Unlikely. If a lot of games sell on Steam, they will just make more games for Steam.

They confirmed on Facebook that CV1000 parts are no longer available and I can't see them investing in new hardware development, particularly after DS2. If there are to be any more Cave arcade releases, they'll be on Nesica or similar sadly.

Afair CC had ~15k sales before the humble bundle. But this was before steam refunds where a thing.

Now it looks really bad on steam:

CV1000 was good enough for me. I think the CV1000 still has some mileage left, especially for arcade operators still using CRT Cabs and enthusiasts like us. It would be interesting to know what the break-even was for a CV1000 game.

“We would certainly consider it if Mushihimesama performs well,” Ogura states. “This release [of Mushihimesama] is an experimental foray in a new business area. We are checking to see if there is a market for shooting outside of the smartphone, but since the game is not released yet it is still too early to tell. We certainly feel it would be worthwhile to crowdfund if the conditions are right.”

Or they could try PGM3, it's the only IGS hardware they are missing :awe:
