help !!! Mortal Kombat 1 chip TMS34010

Hi guys.

I have a mk1 bootleg2 pcb that only gives sound,and i traced image to this ic tms34010nfl.
For what i saw is a programmable grafics ic ,i get no horizontal sync frequency and i want to know if any chip sold on the net can be used to replace without any programming on the pcb

Could it be a symptom of faulty video ram ?
as i said just game sound and white picture...
