It does seem odd
I was bored with Shenmue before the end of the first one so I've never played the second and have absolutely no interest in a third.

Re: Shenmue 3 kickstarter ?
Yu Suzuki has asked Sega for years to back him, looks like he gave up and has gone down his own independent route.
Say hello to my little friend...

Re: Shenmue 3 kickstarter ?
I guess they're still in negotiations with a publisher (SEGA) for the console release. I bet it's a rights issue and they can't offer it themselves.geotrig wrote:so is this really real

Also I remember the last disc of Shenmue 2 consisting of nothing else than walking down a path through weeds and forests. I felt like hours pressing only up. I hope this time they will implement at least some form of gameplay.

Re: Shenmue 3 kickstarter ?
Lots of hate in this thread, not sure why - lovely game series. There hasn't been a quality game where you can feed a cat since.
I've backed it, and obviously others have too given they've already hit the reserve (with 31 days to go).
Each to their own I guess!

Re: Shenmue 3 kickstarter ?
Bellend He was probably about 5 when it came out
I did finish the first one but I'd be glad never to play it again. I found it dull to the point where I actually dozed off playing it on more than one occasion. It's like loads of half-baked games in one I reckon - Lame combat, lame voice acting - at least for the English translation, lame adventuring (with loads of backtracking), lame racing, lame mini games etc.
I suppose I can understand why people loved it at the time as it was kind of treading new ground, the first one at least, but I just got sick of it and although I've not played it for a lot of years I can't imagine it holds up well nowadays, or does it?

Re: Shenmue 3 kickstarter ?
Have you watched the trailer on kickstarter? It's the most half-baked and lame thing I've seen in a while.
Sorry, had some leftover hate in my pocket.

If he's going the independent route, it's nice to see that at least he could use the Shenmue name, character and everything else.
Keiji Inafune wasn't so lucky. Unfortunately.

But what's the point if I can't play Outrun and Hang On in it.

Re: Shenmue 3 kickstarter ?
Physical copies for PS4 (and pc). Lots of theories going around that its a test to see how bothered people are before Sony or whoever part finances the thing because the 2million they asked for just about covers sweet nothing in the Shenmue scheme of things.geotrig wrote:so is this really real

Re: Shenmue 3 kickstarter ?
I was asked if I will back it, so in return I asked how much is the physical copy minimum donation, got my answer and then proceeded to donate that exact sum on the group that subtitles the anime shows I watch.

I always thought Shenmue was dull, but I'm glad it's being made nonetheless.

I don't understand where all the money went on Shenmue.
Played it, but once I got to the arcades, I lost interest...

Re: Shenmue 3 kickstarter ?
Wow. I thought you guys would be all over this!
Something I posted on Facebook earlier about it which I think highlights how kickstarter is bad for games however.

AndI'm delighted it is being made and I'm happy that Sony is helping but Kickstarter is becoming nothing more than a PR and marketing platform that makes games look like they cost far less to make than they do. Lots of high profile games are getting backed with backers believing that they are making these games a reality. The truth is that most of the backing comes from other sources.
My main issue with this approach, is that smaller indie studios will find it incredibly difficult to secure the funds they really need to make their game decent. "Why would we pay xxx for this unknown game, when Shenmue III only cost $2million to make".
