Why are there no NG.DEV roms?

Post by ninn »

Good morning, fellows.

Just a quick question, because it puzzled me a little.

In the Krautbusters-Announcement, someone said he would wait for the roms. Somone elese replied, none of the ng-dev-team-games have been dumped so far.

why ist that? What did they do right?
Ist that the magic of PLDs and FPGAs?
Or just a big blob of black stuff ala Pier Solar?
Maybe it is thanks to Dreamcast-versions?
Or has it been dumped, but hasnt been released?
Or wouldn't it work in normal mame?

Just curious why that is?

Thanks in advance,
ninn, curious.
Randy and Candy.
currently lazy. must not buy games!

I haven't read anything official but I'd assume the mame team are giving them a grace period to be nice. They used to say something about 4 or 5 years but that doesn't really have any relevance any more.

There must be dirty mames that can run them already.

Maybe because even people that dump ROMs for use in MAME are decent and have just a tiny bit of respect for game developers? };-P

I based myself on this post (and the lack of dumps). The guy is admin and seems to do something with dumping so i figured he'd probably have at least a clue what he's talking about

I'd guess it's more to do with the security on their custom PCBs as there's always some scrote trying to do this sort of thing from day one.

If you want to play a NG:DEV game but can't afford to buy the MVS, wait for the Dreamcast version. If you're too tight to buy the Dreamcast version, fear not, it'll be uploaded somewhere by some pikey within hours.

He seems to think that their games costs a lot more than they actually do though.

DC ports are what you need. You can even run them in an emulator according to NG:DEV themselves. I think they should just release a home rom set for NEO-GEO emulators that's not encrypted but with some measure taken so they can't be made into conversion carts without painstaking work. Hell, they could release their own emulator with some sort of online check.
