Tecmo Kyotaro 29 vs. Sega New Astro City
I have the opportunity to buy either machine at about the same price. Does anyone have any opinions on which cabinet is better worse? Why? This will be my first candy cab. My intent is to run Metal Slug on it and restore it. Is there a place to buy NOS control panels?
Thanks so much.

I will say get the NAC. Can't go wrong with the NAC as your first candy - or anytime to be fair, one of the best cabs period.
...but, I would love to get a Kyotaro for its rarity. A Tecmo cabinet, so nice.

What's a going price for a Kyotaro 29 vs. New Astro City? Are there benefits of one over the other?

Re: Tecmo Kyotaro 29 vs. Sega New Astro City
In the US, I've seen Kyotaro on Craigslist go for $500, whereas the NAC varies from $400-900 depending on condition.
NAC usually have the MS9 monitor while the Kyotaro has the MS8. Matter of pref, but both are good 15khz monitors.
NAC is easier to source parts from. NAC is a good starter cabinet, especially if you get one with the NVS-4000 power supply.

Looks like the Kyotaro has a rotate mech which is a bonus, It would have to be complete though because sourcing parts would be a nightmare.
Answer to the question; They're both nice cabs, go for the design you prefer.

Never seen a Kyotaro. Looks actually pretty cool. As mentioned before, the Astro is pretty common and spare parts are easy to come by. On the other hand, if the Kyotaro has a rotate mechanism (not that you'll ever use it that much ) and is complete without any missing parts, I would go for the Tecmo cab

if it's your first candy cab, you might wan to consider the NAC, lots of info and spares available. But I agree with the main consensus here.
get both

Re: Tecmo Kyotaro 29 vs. Sega New Astro City
LOL. Thanks guys. I think I'm going to try to pick up both. Apparently, the NAC doesn't have a monitor but he's giving the cabinet to me. My wife will probably murder me for bringing two cabinets home. Ugh.
This is the machine I just picked up for a buddy of mine. He got lucky with this purchase. The machine is beautiful. I painted the speaker housing. I tried to mix the color as close as possible but in the end, it dried a shade off. I should have added a little more mustard color to the paint to get it closer to the rest of the body.
Still a very nice machine though.

The best part of the NAC? "Stereo-of-the-Art Sound"
That's the best part.
That's the best part.

Does anyone have a source for NOS control panel overlays? I would like to put the NAC back to original. I bought one from Japan for the machine shown above but I just tried to buy another and now they are out! NOOOOOOoooooo.

I really like the look of the Tecmo Kyotaro 29, and it looks awesome next to the Astro.
