Re: What made you buy a certain system?
This is also in Chronological order (of getting them, that is)!
Megadrive: Strider, Ghoul's n' Ghosts, Truxton and Sonic The Hedgehog. Also had to get the arcade stick, as all I ever wanted was to play the arcade games at home.
PS2 (chipped): For the CAVE ports mainly. Then got all other arcade ports that were decent and installed everything on a hard drive.
XBox 360: For the CAVE ports mainly. Then got all other arcade ports that were decent.
Dreamcast: For the arcade ports.
Playstation: For the arcade ports.
SNES: Because mine has JAMMA. Haven't actually tried it yet, but got a boxed Super Aleste that I got from sven666 for when I actually get it put in a cabinet.

Re: What made you buy a certain system?
TBH as a boy I probably got most of the consoles because I was genuinely excited at the prospect of playing a new/ next gen system. We had an import shop about a 40 min bike ride/ 10 mins by car if I could persuade mum to drive me there. It was called I.C.E in a little place called Goldthorpe, don't know if anyone else used to frequent it. They charged IIRC £3 to exchange one game for another + the difference in value. That's mainly why I had import consoles/ games and I could exchange games every week or two for my pocket money.
SFC: Super Mario World, probably my all time fave game, but there were loads of early top titles that I couldn't wait to be released
Mega Drive: Golden Axe was my first game but the anticipation of G&G, Strider etc etc was very exciting
Mega CD: I was very late to the party, and what a **** party the Mega CD was, but yeah I got one years later from a car boot sale for Final Fight which is just as well as a handful of other great titles
PCE: I don't remember exactly, but it was seeing stuff like Splatterhouse, Atomic robokid, R-type etc that made me get one
360: GTA IV I loved San An, but sadly IV turned out to be mince
3DS: Pilotwings short but fun. I'd waited since the N64 days for the next instalment so couldn't wait to get my mits on it
I don't recall what games first made me want to buy the other consoles, but if it's Nintendo then for me Mario will have had something to do with it.

Always makes me laugh, even now, when people say that Sonic games ever came close to being as great as Mario games. Super Mario World vs Sonic 2? SMW every time.

Re: What made you buy a certain system?
Same here (although not just), have pretty much every console from 2600 onwards but something changed for me last gen. It took me ages before I got a 360, still don't own a PS3, vita only lasted a month or two and I've zero interest in the PS4 & Xbox one. I have a 3DS which I like a lot and there's enough stuff I now want to play on the WiiU to warrant a purchase, but if it weren't for Nintendo I think console gaming would have died a quite death for me.TadCool wrote:

Re: What made you buy a certain system?
Doom64 was alright, it was the N64 that was the problem.
The silly thing about me slagging off the PS2 launch now, it's the last console I would get rid of. I still have my launch day machine and it still works fine.

Re: What made you buy a certain system?
Anyway, on topic let me think of reasons why I bought certain things. I was born in 1990 though so I missed a lot of this stuff at launch. Hell, I was 9 years old when my recently acquired Japanese launch PS2 (SCPH-10000) was manufactured, a mere 6 months after I initially obtained my PlayStation for my 9th Birthday.
Game Boy Advance: To see my B/W Pokémon (had a Pocket previously) in colour and the prospect of a GBA Pokémon game.
DS: DS Pokémon game.
3DS: 3DS Pokémon game.
GameCube: Zelda Wind Waker
Wii U: Bayonetta 2 (please see a release) and I guess The Wonderful 101
Nintendo 64: Ocarina of Time and Pokémon Stadium
PlayStation 2: Devil May Cry and Gran Turismo 3
Xbox 360: Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball 2
PlayStation 3: Metal Gear Solid 4
Mega Drive: Streets of Rage 2
SNES: Super Mario World
PlayStation: Gran Turismo
Sega Saturn: Sega Rally Championship
Dreamcast: Crazy Taxi
PC Engine: Soldier Blade
Xbox: Fable
Vita: Persona 4 Golden
PSP: CFW possibilities

I wasn't accusing you of not being on topic, was referring to my previous post which kinda was on topic but it didn't specifically address the topic.

Bayonetta 2 is the only thing that will make me buy a Wii U too. I'll probably sell it again after.

Re: What made you buy a certain system?
I'm thinking the same quite honestly.
Can't really be bothered with TW101 considering it's only after you complete it that the game starts getting good - apparently.

Re: What made you buy a certain system?
I didn't list the systems that I got as xmas or birthday gifts as I didn't get to choose them, but I remember the first games I got for them after I was done with the title that was bundled with the console.
C64 - I got this collection of Konami ports with Yie Ar Kung Fu and Green Beret on it, and never wanted anything else for it.
NES - Ghosts 'n Goblins I was 6 yeard old at the time and the second level raped me.
MD - Two Crude Dudes. I still love Crude Buster.
Bonus:
PS1 - After getting sick of Toshinden, I went for Loaded. I ended up buying PWEI CDs soon after.
