Apologies if this has been covered before, but I can't find the answer. I have decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my Arcade PC's to Windows 7 64bit. The problem is the resolution on boot up.
Using the command "bcdedit /set bootux basic" Windows still outputs 1024x768@60hz for about half a second before showing the low resolution boot screen at 640x480@60hz. During that brief half second I get a rapid clicking sound from my Arcade Monitor as it can’t sync. This has previously damaged my old chassis.
Using the Command "bcdedit /set bootux disabled" windows outputs a blank screen but still at 1024x768@60hz
I could just run the signal through my j-pac, but I always find this reduces the picture quality.
Any idea's?

I used to have the same problem with my old cab. Sadly I was not able to find a software-sided solution
to the problem, so I had to get inventive.
1) Get one of these: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/79033 ... witch.html"
I'm on the road right now so no time for an exact look, it is ESSENCIAL that you have a close look at the specifications and see to get one that
suits your monitor's voltage / amperage consumption.
2) Hook it up to the powerline running to your monitor. When you power on your cab you can set the monitor
to wait for X seconds, and then switch on. That solved the problem for me.
-> It will altogether not take any longer than usual since you would have to wait for the PC to boot up anyway.
Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately Windows 7 still output 1024x768 for a short period. As I couldn't find a solution to the Windows 7 boot resolution, I decided to try XP 64bit. However, I have noticed a couple of games that were running full speed on Windows 7 are really choppy and dropping below 80% on XP 64bit. The games is question are Tekken 3 and NFL Blitz. I used exactly the same 64bit build and set-up of Mame on both operating systems.
So my question is:-
Is there a performance difference between XP 64bit and Windows 7 64bit when using a 64bit build of Mame?

I just tested XP 32bit with a 32bit build of Mame and it's running Tekken 3 faster than XP 64bit with a 64bit build of Mame
I have check that I have all the latest drivers for XP 64bit and everything appears to be working fine, but I should get a speed improvement over XP 32bit not the opposite You should get about a 25-30% speed increase when using 64bit Mame on a 64bit OS. The main reason for upgrading is that the Cave SH3 driver is going to officially be back in Mame 0.153. It will not run properly on 32bit Mame even on an i7 machine.
Window 7 64bit runs the fastest, but I haven't got a solution yet to the boot resolution issue with Windows 7

I am using a jpac in my cab, so I tried running the signal through the jpac and the boot screen appeared ok, but I got nothing once windows had loaded, even though it is correctly set at 640x480@60hz and the jpac is set to 31khz. I have a new ArcadeVGA on order, but I had issues the last time I used one in this cab as the screen is vertical and the rotate function does not work in the Ultimarc drivers. I spoke to Andy at Ultimarc and he doesn't think the issue has been fixed. My frontend requires the rotate function to display correctly.

Unfortunately some of the games I want to play run much better on Windows 7 than on XP. Homura and Shikigami No Shiro III run perfectly on Windows 7 and are unplayable on XP. I think the XP driver support for my hardware is very poor.
