Re: Remote for 15/24kHz switching on Nanao MS9
Right, I have a UVC on the over from the states and Emph has kindly sent me some of the connectors.
I want to do this mod myself and I think I'm going to try switching it with a couple of DPDT switches.
You can get 4PDT relays but I can seem to source any in the UK at a decent price.
Does anyone know what rating relays I should be looking at? I have seen [these] 10A 12v DPDTs at Maplins. I imagine that should be more than enough.
Any thoughts before I make my MS9 go BOOM?

I have no clue as to how those work.FrancoB wrote:
Best of luck to you. If you need to find out if/how they work you could always hook up a couple of light bulbs to the one power cord and run through it. Right?

I know exactly how they work and how to wire them etc.
I'm just wondering if they are rated high enough and/or if someone more knowledgeable thinks its a bad idea.
Looks like I'm the Guinea Pig
If it works I'll post a wiring diagram etc etc.

Ask Kerns what he'd do and do the opposite. That way it'll probably work

Re: Remote for 15/24kHz switching on Nanao MS9
I ordered the [N08AW 10A DPDT relays] from Maplins a few weeks ago but they were out of stock and were put on back order They finally arrived this morning though so I can get cracking on it
I'm at work this evening so I wont get chance to play until tomorrow but I have been working on the wiring diagram.
These are the relays:
The bottom vertical terminals you apply 12v to. The two horizontal pins above that are the common (COM) terminals. The two pins above that are the normally open terminals (NO) and the two above that are the normally closed terminals.
When no voltage is applied the COM and NC termainals are connected. When 12v is applied the COM and NO terminals are connected.
With that in mind I intend to wire them like this:
With no 12v input 15kHz should be selected. If you switch 12v on then 24kHz should be selected.
I'm going to wire everything up as short as possible tomorrow and give it a go. The 12v/ground wires can be as long as we like.
In the mean time if anyone can see anything wrong then please let me know!

Re: Remote for 15/24kHz switching on Nanao MS9
That looks clever. I bet the length of the wires had something to do with mine not working.
Before you introduce that contraption into your cabinet I would:
a) Put the cabinet in 24kHz and make sure it syncs to your UVC (I assume) set to 24kHz
b) Change the jumper back to 15kHz and make sure it syncs again
I remember having to adjust (V hold?) when first testing 24kHz, so with it set before testing anything else is highly recommended.

Re: Remote for 15/24kHz switching on Nanao MS9
Yeah I thought I had better test it 'manually' first as I have never had it set to 24kHz.
Lets hope it works. I think I should be able to get the wire lengths down to 5cm or so. At least we will know if that is the issue.
If this doesn't work then **** knows

Okay, so I have manually set the monitor jumper to 24kHz, changed the UVC to 24kHz and I get :emphatic wrote: Before you introduce that contraption into your cabinet I would:

Can you remember what you had to change? I have had a look in the manual and I can't see anything that relates to V holdemphatic wrote: I remember having to adjust (V hold?) when first testing 24kHz, so with it set before testing anything else is highly recommended.

Re: Remote for 15/24kHz switching on Nanao MS9
Looking back through the thread it seems you had the same problem as me, I can't see what you did to sort it out though

Okay, so I've redone all the soldering and checked it with my Tri-Sync, and everything should be fine with the UVC. So, I get this picture on my Nanao:
It's solid, but it's like it's just out of sync, so what pot do I need to adjust? The V.Lin, or the H.S. Lim perhaps?

Sadly, I've never got what pot you need to adjust figured out. I know it was one on the left side on that row on the chassis.

H.H.24 looks like a nice candidate, right?

I didn't even know those pots were on the chassis I don't think they are shown in the manual.
I'll see if I can pull the monitor and get it running next to the cab so I can adjust whilst the power is on
Tick.....

Re: Remote for 15/24kHz switching on Nanao MS9
Hmmm, just found this in another thread:
Maybe its worth a tweak anyway
So HH is the horizontal hold. Am I right in thinking we want vertical hold?grantspain wrote:ABL ?automatic brightness limiter
HH.15/24 ? horizontal hold 15/24 khz
SPC 15/24 ? side pincushion 15/24khz
H.S.LIN ? if its lin then horizontal linearity but i think its lim therefore horizontal size limit
V.S.Limit vertical size limit
Maybe its worth a tweak anyway

Actually, the image is stable vertically so I think we do want the horizontal hold
Lets get tweaky

Re: Remote for 15/24kHz switching on Nanao MS9
A quick tweak and
I've changed between 15kHz and 24kHz a few time on the MS9/UVC and its synced to both with no issues so we know we can swap between them without any whistling/noises etc.
Now to wire the relays etc......

It was the H.H. 24 pot then? Shall I prepare my popcorn now?

No fireworks I'm afraid but it only **** works doesn't it
Relays wired:
Plugged in:
I'm temporarily using a Jamma passthough and a SPST switch for power for the moment but I have something nicer, and neater planned
Installed everything back in the cab and it works great, 360 games look great at 24kHz
