How about a monthly tournament ? ( re-posted)
RE- Posted here from High Scores forum as it seems to be of interest and is pobably more visible here ......
Like the rest of us here I have a fair number of pcbs, but tend to compete against myself , circulating the games on a fairly regular basis........
So I got to thinking what would be a good way to get motivated to really try to stick with a particular game and then compete with others acoss the board.....
We have the high scores listed here , but then again there is no real pressure to compete like there is in a time-bound situation........
as an idea what about we vote for a pcb ( hopefully a popular enough one that people own ) , and then at the month end we have a close off submission date for scores......... rinse and repeat .......
Anyone interested ? may even prompt a bit more active dialogue on strategies ?

Would be nice if games available on mame could be included occaisionally, that way you may get many more entries...

Seeing as this is the first one, I’ll make sure there is an arcade related prize for the winner.

How about making a shortlist, throwing up a poll and kicking it off on April 1st for a month?

Just a suggestion. More time to get organised would probably be a good idea!markedkiller78 wrote:Sounds good to me, but it's 2 weeks away

Re: How about a monthly tournament ? ( re-posted)
exactly what I was going to suggest ... we have a couple of weeks to get the first one sorted , get some interest and decide a title.......then score submission deadline is the last day of the month......Shady994 wrote:How about making a shortlist, throwing up a poll and kicking it off on April 1st for a month?
I guess it will realistically have to be a shmup or side scroller... how about one of the older Cave / Raizing titles..... ? a classic beginning something like Dodonpachi ?
also do we count mame vs pcb ? as long as its a game with decent emulation I suppose OK ?

I would be in favour of including MAME submissions, purely because it will probably increase the number of participants. Especially for some of the more expensive/rare shooters.

Re: How about a monthly tournament ? ( re-posted)
Agreed its a good starting point and ttotally different to what most would choose........
Im only wishing my getting an MVS setup ( for about the 5th time over the years ) was coming a bit faster ... although here is one that is dead easy to play in MAMe of course

This would give me a reason to get it finally.
The screws used to seal up this cart are wood screws. Nobody is going to waste good wood screws on a bootleg, they'd just use cheap electronic screws instead.

The way its set up on Atari Age is everyone puts their name in, then you have a list of participants. Each week the next person on the list chooses the game, that way everyone gets a chance at their favourite. The number of points allocated is easy - if 10 people take part then the winner gets 50 points, the 10th person gets 40, if 50 people take part, the winner gets 50, the last person 1. This encourages everyone to at least have a go.
Seems to work well and has been running for years, despite the fact Todd Rodgers wins just about every week!

I would be well up for some of this
I haz Puzzle Bobble too! I'm crap at it but would be deffo up for it for the first game.
It does, however, mean I may need to finally get mamerz set up for some of the other games

Re: How about a monthly tournament ? ( re-posted)
This reminds me of the high Score thread on Neogeoforlife.com. Every week they would select a game of the week and then a high score thread would follow. It motivated me for a while and got me playing some of the games more regularly. I am **** at shooters so if this monthly tournament allows me to become better at shooters then I am all for it
Starks is always out.
