Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
The 4k/8k debate is pretty redundant for small cabs whatever way you look at it, The smallest 4k tv is 55" 16:9 not inc Dells new 30" monitor on the horizon, Higher the res bigger the screen generally so your left with finding the correct size crt or going down the lcd route whether you like it or not.
"Yeah lets all get ponys instead, wait no lol trendy cabs" Err I think you meant Ponies didn't you ?

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
So why aren't you using the monitor that's you say isn't faulty /is faulty ?:
25 " monitors have to be the most easily available of all ...just burn a woodie for one

<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Calling bollox on that comment, Ebay being the biggest seller base, point me to a cabinet with 0 burn 25" monitor that would fit my Pony, 29" are common 25" are not. Sure you might get a 25" cabinet that's been flogged to death but not any thing I'd care to invest £300+ on and then go down the repair route a few month's on.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but:
I do feel for ya, sucks to have a cab go dark. Good luck with at least getting it playable and eventually finding a replacement or method to repair.
Just need some nice black cardboard

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
I'm ashamed to say that I've had my Pony for a few years now but it's mainly been neglected as I've always had some monitor issues which has put me off playing it
I've tried to adjust it using the pots under the CP but by the time I get the colours bright enough they end up bleeding really weirdly and it looks like ****.
I've decided enough is enough and I want to get it sorted once and for all. I'm guessing I need to take a look at the other controls on the chassis its self. We need to go deeper....
Looking at the chassis it appears to be a Toei TC-RM25J
I've had a read of [Cools' guide on the Wiki] and I'm going to follow that.
Here's how my monitor looks at the moment.

You can see the massive bleed at the top of the colour bars, they should be parallel with the white one. If I turn the brightness down to get rid of the bleed then the screen is far to dark. You can see the 'blue' bleed on the text too. It almost looks like the blue convergence is massively out but it's not too bad if you look at the test grid. The convergence is out a little in the top right corner but it's out horizontally (as you look at the vert screen) and not vertically.
I've had a good look to see where all the pots are and this is what I have to play with:
Brightness/Contrast and RGB 'BKG' pots under the CP:

RGB gains + Sub Bright pots on the chassis:

Flyback pots:

Here's my questions:
1) Looking at the guide the first thing to do is to adjust the 'screen pot'. I image this is the bottom one on the flyback (with the top one being focus). Is that correct? I image this is best to check/set with no PCB connected?
2) The next thing to do is to set the RGB cut-offs, these are the ones on the remote board under the CP, correct?
3) RGB gains are next, these are the ones on the chassis, correct?
4) I've not got a plastic trim tool, I've just been using a metal jewellers screwdriver for the remote board pots
Do I need a plastic one for the chassis pots? If so, where's the best place to get a set?
Bonus questions:
What does the Sub Bright pot on the chassis do? Also, what is the PEAK jumper on the chassis for?

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Your gain is way too high, so your cutoff/background is wrong probably. Starting fresh is a good plan. It may take you a while but its not that much of a pain.
You can get plastic trimming tools on eBay http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trimming-Tool-S ... nav=SEARCH doesn't look like they are necessary for your pots, I use them so I only have to worry about what my hand touches.
(1) you can do with or without a PCB

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Thanks cools.
Getting somewhere now, it's not 100% but its 1000x better than what it was. Adjusting the focus helped no end too.
Why didn't I do this years ago

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
****.....no I haven't tried it fitted yet only when setting up the emulators with the case on, looked alright with scan lines tbh it's never going to be as good as a CRT but CRT's are such a pain in the balls that I can live with the compromise. Plus I've got an lg ultra wide above the pony for active marquees\high score data so I've kinda gone all in on the lcd front

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
I've just uploaded my custom 12 button adaptation of cool's black Pony CP to the wiki but don't know how to link it to the Pony 25 section,
Here is the link>

I think I may have left a couple of objects off at the top that need deleting also

Don't know if this is relevant or not- but in the USA I had a *TOUGH* time sourcing monitors for my table ponys. American 25" monitor is measured inside the shadow mask (diagonal picture size), japan was the face of the tube. A 25" US monitor would not fit my table pony- I would have needed to source a 24" US monitor or 25" japan monitor.
Ultimately it meant I had to just buy a japan neo geo cab to pull it out of- took a few years to finally just do that, sourcing a monitor wasn't happening. Which means I'll need a CGA-VGA convertor and an LCD monitor to toss in the then empty neo and sell on the net if nobody locally is willing to buy the project cab when I'm done.
Two faults with the table pony- the monitor size- sourcing replacements- and the fact that it's mounted without a frame on the VH and H models. I have seen quite a few with necked tubes.
I figure that's loosely related to the sitdowns.

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Around how much are these going for these days? I am looking for a metal cabinet and it is between this, a Cute or a MVS u4. Not sure which one to pick.
