Ahhh....Thanks for posting this. I was so curious of how the innards compared with the VSHG, now I definitely want one of these.LEGENOARYNINLIA wrote: ↑December 18th, 2020, 7:09 am Check out this Twitter account if you're eager to peek inside the Astro themed stick.

Re: Sega Astro City Mini
First impressions are really good. It's a nice size and just as cute as in the pictures. It's hard to grasp how diddy the stick and buttons are until you see them in person, but they are genuinely good. They've got wonderful tiny microswitch feeling I love.
The screen being 16:9 is the obvious flaw, but the controls are so cool that I can overlook it. It'll never replace my actual cab or home sticks, but that's not the point. I think it'll go on my desk at work (when that goes back to normal) so I can sneak in some rounds of Cotton, Puyo or VF while doing a compile... as long as the microswitches don't make it too obvious...

Re: Sega Astro City Mini
Love this little thing. It’s nicely made, English option, quick menus, save states. Crisp and vibrant 720p output that scales surprisingly well on my 4K TV. There’s a scanline option but it only looks right on the small screen. The big stick is awesome. There are some meh games, there are some great games you’ve already bought a thousand times and there are plenty of interesting SEGA titles I’ve never played and am enjoying discovering. Emulation seems broadly very good. No audio lag. As expected, VF has a couple of issues - some input lag via the TV and the frame rate drops during replays. Personally I can forgive that and the pragmatic 16:9 screen.
Considering the price of the other mini consoles, I think this is a good deal and a very cool toy for candy cab fans.

mamedev wrote:Lots of long-standing issues have been fixed in this release. Missing platforms in stage 15 of Sega’s Quartet now appear properly. This relies on a protection microcontroller feature that we were previously unaware of. Protection features that are only used late in the game have been a recurring source of frustration not just for emulator developers, but also for arcade bootleggers, and even publishers re-issuing old games in new formats. It seems Sega missed this feature in their Astro City Mini release.

Re: Sega Astro City Mini
Mine just arrived today too. ^^
Even if the materials inside look pretty old compared to the Neogeo mini (mini USB + HDMI in 2021?) but the emulation job is just awesome, and the mini panel is a lot better than the one we've seen on other minis.
With my external battery, I think I'm gonna carry it in the train to play some Arabian Nights and Virtua Fighter eheh. (training till the day I'll get a true Astro!)

Re: Sega Astro City Mini
Confirm.
I have both, NeoGeo and AstroCity. I cannot compare NGmini with SEGA. Imho SEGA wins as controls, games and for general quality By the way is better NGmini as build quality

It’s ****.
Edit: to clarify, talking about the video out here, not the unit itself.

I have a hard time imagining any of you actually playing on this thing tbh. The inputlag won't matter for the shelf.
