This guy will do a better repro: https://www.bluishsquirrel.co.uk/produc ... creen-lens
My fourth (and final) AGB turned up. It's a little flakey due to leaky battery syndrome, stinks of smoke and the lens is badly scratched. Shell is in decent shape though. Order 4 101 screens in a few weeks and see how I get on.

Re: Game Boys (Bivert-curious welcome)
Subjective.
Plastic is original. Scratches more easily than glass.
Glass is non original, advertised as "clearer" and "more durable".

My pre-modded DMG came with a glass lens. It was a little thicker than the stock lens so didn’t sit flush. It’s clearer and doesn’t easily scratch but when Jakey dropped the gameboy it cracked.
When I bought a replacement I went with a glass one again. And again it’s a bit too thick.

Replaced the screen in my OG white GBA today with one of the [Chinese ones from ebay.] I originally installed had an Afterburner front light kit in it some 16+ years ago. Check out the soldering skillz on this bad boy
Holy blobs of solder Batman! How on earth that never shorted I will never know.
Anyway, installed the new LCD and the difference is amazing!
Standard screen + Afterburner front light
Replacement backlit screen:
I'm really happy with it. Just need to order some replacement screws for the case as I appear to be a few missing.

Awesome. Those screens are so nice in an OG. Makes it the ultimate GBA in my opinion, despite the ghosting. It’s obvious but it doesn’t bother me.

Do you have a link? That’d be great if true, but I read a lot of non-science when I was looking into the screen mod.

Re: Game Boys (Bivert-curious welcome)
By ghosting do you mean some kind of motion blur or? I've not had chance to play a lot of games since modding it but I've not noticed anything off putting as yet. I hardly have hi fi eyez though.
Are there any games that show ghosting well? I'll try and grab some video if I can.

I thought Markedkiller posted a vid but I cant find it.
Mario games or anything else with sprites with black outlines. On Super Mario Bros 3’s map screen you can notice the doubled black outlines of all the dancing hills flash across the screen every second.
GB games show it quite well. Watch Link as he moves, and the screen transition.

Re: Game Boys (Bivert-curious welcome)
Hoping to get some time this weekend to complete my backlit DMG. Further reading of other anecdotes suggests I've only removed the film from the reflective layer, and removing the stock polarising film will leave me with a cleanable LCD.
Fingers crossed. Getting that layer off wasn't too bad but it would've been easier to know there were two to be removed from the beginning.

Re: Game Boys (Bivert-curious welcome)
Did mine this weekend and the gba, I hadn't seen any mention of 2 layers before either, I came across it looking to easy ways to get the glue good off. Someone commented that there was 2layers .its easy enough to get off and it cleans easyish afterwards bivert is handy enough also.cools wrote:Hoping to get some time this weekend to complete my backlit DMG. Pubjoe what happens when you fully turn the contrast wheel? Does it actually invert at the beginning

I've now seen guides that mention both, but they're not the top of the search by any means.

Can't upload from my phone for some reason
The dmg doesn't photo that well as pubjoe said earlier in the thread, the gba screen is ace. I need to get new lens for both.
