I’m finally currently playing Metal Slug X…

Working my way through the series aiming to 1cc them all.
I’ve beaten MS2 on a credit in MAME, and on the PC on the ACA port, but I’ve finally done it on real hardware so I can move on.

Already down to 3 credits on MSX, so hopefully I’ll be on to MS3 pretty soon.

Honestly, with Neo Geo stuff… not really…

Emulation is really good on MAME, and I was playing them on the ACA PC ports (FB Alpha behind it, I believe?) and could not tell the difference between how they play and the cab.

The Steam port of Metal Slug however sucks. Does play differently. It’s been a long time since I used it, so I can’t give an example, but if I sat down to play it in a blind test, I could definitely tell you it wasn’t real hardware.
I think Alan O’Neil (level 3 mid boss) is the most obvious difference. Seems to play totally differently.

I’m determined to do it on hardware just for my own satisfaction really.
I’ve put the time and effort into collecting them, and tarting up cabs to play them in, it’s madness to then grind them on PC.

Fair play at trying to crack Metal Slug X - my stumbling block on X is the stage with all the mutants / the sewer level. As for MS3, forget it. That final stage there's just too much going on it's verging on unfair/credit feeding territory . . .

Missions 1-4 aren’t too bad.

Mission 5 is an odd one (mutant/sewer level) … you have to no death mission 5. If you lose your stock of grenades, it makes the runaway trains impossible and it ends the run.

Mission 6 you can lose two lives and still no death the final boss, but that final boss is so RNG heavy that you can also get there deathless and still not beat the game.

Same for both MS2 and X.

I’ve very deliberately not played much of 3 or beyond yet, so that as much as possible is a surprise when I get there.

As long as it takes, I’ll get all the arcade iterations beaten on a credit eventually.
No doubt it’ll be years, but there’s no rush.

I should probably record them really…

Hats off to you, Chris. I enter an existential crisis within 5 minutes of playing any game in the series. Been over 7 years since I touched one.

I've been playing Ultracore. It's nice.

I've been playing Vampire Survivors recently. Game is much better than the trailer suggests.

Definitely worth a punt if you have an xbox, it's on Game Pass too atm. :awe:

Currently playing a few games in my cabs:

- Vimana (PCB)
- Mushihimesama (PCB)
- Viper Phase 1 (PCB)
- Cotton Rock 'n' Roll (ALLS)

God what a master piece Mushihimesama is - music, graphics, flow - .. still it doesn't allow me the 1cc yet :wtf:

Quake II co-op. Yamagi version, for the controller support. It's fun, but doesn't hold a candle to the first one. Enemies trying to crouch in plain open spaces to avoid getting shot is getting old. This is my first time playing this properly.

Also dabbling with KOF '95 on the Analogue Pocket... so the GB version, which was my very first KOF ever. I like it.

WildSnake on the SNES. Like Tetris but it's not because it has snakes innit. Give it a try.

Blood Fresh Supply edition in co-op, and Ion Fury in single player. Pew pew, both look rather purdy on a CRT, bang bang. I much prefer Blood because Ion Fury is too much of a sensory overload with all the colours and tiny details.
