PS3/X360 lifecycle estimates? Place your bets!

Post by LEGENOARYNINLIA »

So, which one do you think will be properly supported for the longest, the PS3 or the 360? Let's not count FIFA and such releases as proper support alright. Will you stick with what you have or get a PS4/XBONE? Hmm?

I'm probably sticking with my PS3 until it dies. :shifty: And I don't really have hope that the PS3 will get anything that appeals to my tastes when early 2015 rolls by. :problem:

I'm going to have a draw between everyone who makes a guess. Only one guess per person, please. Will pick out three winners randomly and send each winner a random sealed game. (PS2/PS3/360, all PAL)

Will draw the winners on the 1st of July. What a great way to get rid of some backlog... :shifty:

Well, FIFA 14 is coming out in September for the PS2, but does that really count? The FFXI expansion Seekers of Adoulin came out in Japan in March, but I don't think expansion packs count either.

Well, I am selling my Xbox, and putting my eggs in one basket with the PS3 until the year end. I am going to go through some of the games I missed as up until now, I was all 360 and used my PS3 as a BR Player really.

I think people will still be selling and playing PS3/360 stuff for a few years. You can still buy a Wii and Wii games. Sure there are new releases for that?

Compared to older consoles though, the other thing to note is when the games stop working online (ie servers for popular games) which would lead to the console falling.

Take COD. Its has a stong user base so people will still be attracted to the 360/PS3 for that reason, to play games online. Also things like GT5.

Plenty of fat PS3s are dying these days too. :problem:

And of course, why would I get rid of my excess games next month when I could be holding out for so long? :awe:

XBOX 360 to last the longest release / support wise imo.

MS made it clear they are continuing to support the 360 and by releasing a new version of it, sort of supports that statement.

I think Sony played it smart by releasing the super slim system earlier and not waiting to announce it during the E3. So, both companies appear to be supporting the current gen in that behalf.

I also agree that the 360 will have a long life ahead.. Especially when (at this rate) nobody will be buying that lump of restrictive spyware box.

The PS3 should also have healthy life after PS4 too. At around £130 new for a PS3 and with the Wii U having just current gen graphics, both PS3 and 360 should make quite a lot in the low budget market.

MS has already stated that they will continue to support the 360 for the next 5 years.

They said pretty much the same thing about the original Xbox, it was completely dead by the enb of 2006.

This question is a no brainer, the PS3 will have the bigger lifecycle due to the big install base in Japan and the fact that it is also a blu-ray player.

They will also support Windows XP until April next year - they probably don't want to do that either.
