GCW Zero

Kickstarter begins tonight sometime after 11PM (GMT).

Looks particularly good, pricing is apparently going to be around $120 before shipping.

Interesting.

I've never made a kickstarter pledge before. By pledging do I 'promise I'll buy it' or 'pay up now and wait for x months/years'?

Wow, that looks pretty awesome. I look forward to seeing the pledge options on Kickstarter.

Joe, from the FAQ:
Every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing.

I get the kind of feeling the Pandora generated, only this time the legwork has already been done and they're going for a games only device.

Worries me the lack of solid info or updates without digging through threads on forums

This looks very promising, I would've loved a microswitch based d-pad, but the 4/3 3.5" 320*240 screen looks already quite nice. If the emulation is spot on it could be the handheld console I've been waiting for since my GP32 10 years ago!

Here's the kickstarter page:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gcw ... n=56ffdb8d"

$135 is the lowest pledge to get yourself the system. Seems absolutely worth it to me!

Yeah I guess they've got to weigh up portability and battery life.

Is the design fully finalised? You could always sign up and argue your case on their discussion boards.

At first I disagreed with you about dual thumb sticks, but now that I think about it, it would be worth having for some DOS fps and also, just so that you have emulation of a right handed mouse. I suppose otherwise, you could aim with the nub left handed and use the 4-buttons at your right hand for running and strafing.

The main thing for me is I hope they don't focus too much on dream specs and then scrimp on the D-pad. They should rip off Nintendo's D-pad as much as legally possible.

For the extra few pence its worth having imho, It makes for a better all round emulation device, The question is why wouldn't you have two thumb sticks :P >Robotron :awe:

That would be better using the digital input of the d-pad and diamond-arranged buttons. Think: Smash-TV on the snes.

Has my backing now too.

This'll get some  but the specifications mean that you could install this in a cab with very little trouble. If you wanted to. And it'd beat the pants off any of the Chinese multigame boards.

Nice video on the xbox emulation comparison, cools. :awe:  :thumbupright:

I like how it's not completely one-sided to promote his product, showing problems with each.
